My first experience of the Boxing Day Tsunami 2004 apart from seeing it on the news, was in Tangalle in Sri Lanka. The devastation and heartbreak encountered is beyond belief and now I find myself in Banda Aceh which was the worst hit of all the places affected.

... street and appeared to be ushered by some old ladies on their porch towards the water. As I stepped off the final bit of so called road my poor trainer disappeared. It was a foot deep in mud. Sadly my momentum took me another step. Well the only positive was my trainers were now matching black mud colour rather than blue. ... a place that we trusted (e.g. a restaurant) was not going to happen. So we asked the front desk nicely at our hotel and they kindly prepared rice and chicken. Not only that but boiling hot orange juice. Interesting. After three days in the jungle I smiled as Yvonne got very excited about the room. She hadn't seen my hotels on my first week.
