Jl. Jendral Sudirman No. 9 Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia, 62-274-566617

Arrived in Yogyakarta on a wet Wednesday afternoon and spent the rest of the day in the charming surrounds of the hotel. Thursday 29/1 Explored Jalan Malioboro, alive with t-shirt and souvenir vendors along sheltered walkway resembling '5-foot-ways' in Singapore under old shophouses. Visited the Kraton, the seat of the Yogyakarta sultanate. Found Malik (or rather, he found me!) along Jalan Sosrowijyan, who offered to be my driver for the next day. Friday 30/1 Was met at 04:30 hrs at the hotel...

We can find almost find any department that we may not find in other towns.
Anyhow, people in Indonesia or people who make travel to Indonesia, sometimes call Yogyakarta or Jogjakarta which both of them are right.
... Lonely Planet. I will try and join a group for a tour to Prambanan or Borobudur to visit two sets of temples - one is hindu and the other is bhudist.
I walk way too far and have to go back to finally find the office on Sosrowijana called Great Tours. I am in luck and they do have a group going to Borobudur the next day. I pay 200,000 for what they say will be a 12 hr day tour. Pick-up is to be at 4:45 a.m. Happy of my success I decide to walk ...
These weren't written in Yogyakarta, but I decided to keep the map in chronological order so I added them after the Yogyakarta entry:
BUGS AND ANIMALS
Bugs and animals in Southeast Asia…they are numerous and varied. Among the more benign creatures that we’ve encountered are geckos, which I used to be afraid of, but now I’m not. They range from tiny (and those ones are super-cute) to enormous -- the big ones must be a different species, but I’m no ...
... get back to Yogya after the show had finished (as the last bus had gone and I didn't want to fund a taxi on my lonesome (and be financially raped))- luckily there was an official booth offering reasonably priced transport back. After a brief Harry Potter photo stop, I made it to the minibus. I got talking to a Romanian lass called Antonia on the way back who had plenty of interesting stories to tell particularly about how scarily friendly many of the Burmese are - some ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia cereal42... quite ironic really - the government here (elections coming up - pick between 46 parties!) have elected an anti-corruption commission to clean up Indonesia's corrupt look. Last month the chair of this board (all senior MP's and business owners) was arrested for allegedly murdering another business associate and bribing someone to cover it up. Madness. If you want something doing here - the greenback works. Although it's different at street level. The ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia danstravelworld... at this time i would like to say if any of you would like to see the pictures of this and are not already on my photo mailing list, just email me and i will be more then happy to add you! The second stop of the morning after the sunrise was up to the base of the still steaming Mt. Bromo where there was a trail through the moonscape and then a stairway ascending to the very precipice of this beast. this is something i dont think you would ever be allowed to do in ...

My cab driver was blown away when I told him of America's escalated income tax system and the 45% (all-in) tax bracket I was in back in NYC. He said "why would anyone work if they have to pay half their money in taxes!" Indonesia is a beautiful country with tremendous ...
Oggi ...
Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia planetvale... musicians. I plunged straight through the bird market, pursued by a particularly persistent batik vendor, scarcely glancing left or right for fear of the Westerners' twin terrors - contracting bird flu and witnessing animal cruelty. On the far side of the market, just as described, was a cafe and prominently, on the verandah table, was a teapot. Also at the table were 3 french tourists who had quelle surprise when I lurched up, removed the teapot lid and out ...
