... By the time I got to Jakarta my eyes stung from the smoke and the acrid smell of burning rubbish intensified as we neared the city of 14 million people. I have to say though, the city centre is lovely, with many tree lined avenues and grand buildings... a world away from where the majority live on the railway lines and similar such grim areas.

First New Travels...

... seemed to want to occupy the same little bit of road that we were on! Ah well, all part of life's rich tapestry, eh? :o) Meetings all went well, and after a couple of days exploring the outer reaches and experiencing the driving 'styles' of Indonesia, I was more than ready to get on a flight back to Jakarta, spenda quiet night in the hotel and then make my way back to Perth on Thursday with the help of Malaysia Airlines! No photographs of this trip - to be honest ...

Jakarta

... was pretty uncool. I found a big enough gap alright but one taxi driver felt the need to blast on his horn to express his dis-approval. I later apologised to Elke for putting our lives in danger to such a degree and re-thought my philosophy on using expressways; Possibly a good idea from city to city but definitely a no-no in and around cities. Accommodation was a little tricky here, some sort of sporting event being on in town had no vacancy problems everywhere. Elke didn't ...

... the number of semi trucks and about a 100 moped/motor cycles every 50 yards. I looked like a terrorist riding on the back of the moped. I have this totally beat up helmet on that came with the bike, my do-rag to keep the smog and exhaust out of my lungs, sunglasses to protect my eyes from the same deep black soot, and my travel guitar between my legs, between Yudi, sticking up like a rifle case. Yudi is zipping through the slow moving traffic ...

The single komodo dragon was large but it's belly was so fat and obese that we think it would never be able to move! Either it was used to a life of luxury or it just ate something but we positively think it's the former. There was then the "petting zoo" which we wanted to skip but since the minders had taken out their tortoise and python we were obliged to ...

The Last Eden on Earth

... thick vines dripping from the trees, and knowing now which plants not to grab onto because of their hidden prickles. Once we got to the top of the ridge, we settled in a cool, airy spot to relax and have our lunch of noodles, tempeh, eggs and sliced cucumber. My stomach was still unsettled, so I nibbled on cucumber, put my feet up on a tree, and listened to the wind rustling through the quivering palms and the echo of macaques calling to each ...
