We disembarked the motor bus along the Grand Canal and then walked a very short distance way up to our hotel, the Carlton on the Grand Canal! Just like its name said, we were on the Grand Canal! Eventually it sinks in (no pun intended)....there are no cars, buses, bikes or anything else on wheels here, that's why it's so peaceful. Only boats - they serve as water buses, taxis, fire engines, police, garbage collection, fruit market and private transport.
