The train day

A travel blog entry by 7wa93bxcf

Train was forty minutes late getting to Genova, so we missed our connection, but it didn't matter as no-one checked our tickets the whole way from Manarola to Nice. We changed at Sestri Levanti, Genoa, Vintimiglia and Monaco before finally arriving in Nice about 6 pm. Seems like a very lively town, lots of young people, but we just craved a lovely …

We have left Italy now arriving in France , Nice today by train. We had to catch three different trains as we try to do the trip on the cheap. On doing this we had to travel on regional and intercity trains rather than the TGV's which were just as fast but not as grand, also they stop at more locations on route. The day started out at 8am catching …

Day 16 - The Monte Carlo

... Cannes the kebab place was closed :( craving one we looked up on the Internet for kebab places in Cannes. We enjoyed our kebabs and marvelled at the curios sauce that had a taste that wasn't quite recognisable. We headed back down to the beach waking all the way along the shore the pathway was lit up by rainbow lights that danced in patterns on the floor! We sat on the wall facing the water making shadows with the light on our backs. Then back to the hotel and ...

... which was within smelling distance of La Golondrina. We rarely ate there—it was hardly like going out—but it seemed appropriate for this visit. From our table on the terrasse of the restaurant we could see the roof of our old house.

Finally it was time to walk, as we’d done so many times, under the arches of the thick city wall into the bustling core of St Paul de Vence. The same tourists milled up and down the stone paths, holding dripping ...

    Nice, quiet place!

    from amorcitos

We spent three nights here in mid-July over the Independence Day holiday, when the city was very crowded. This part of town, however, wasn't. It was very quiet, and the hotel very comfortable.

Our room was upgraded by a very kind clerk, so we ended up with a balcony, which was nice both for eating outside and for drying our laundry. The fridge also came in handy.

All the staff was extremely friendly and very professional, and most seemed to speak very good English. We'd definitely stay here again.

    Just the job

    from curiousgadgy

We stayed at Le Florence Hotel in July 2004, we found it to be very clean with very pleasant/friendly multilingual staff (our French is very weak), good modern tv with English speaking channels with a very useful refrigerator. Good quiet central position and pleasant buffet breakfast at extra cost. The one down side was the semi-blocked toilet that despite reporting was only cured temporarily otherwise would thoroughly recommend and return ourselves with no hesitation.

    Friendly staff

    from pattap

We stayed at the end of June 04 and the staff were friendly and the hotel clean, on the down side the room was the smallest we had ever stayed in but was serviced every day and the location was good ideal if you aren't expecting any extras The veiw from our room was not good as we were at the back and looked out over air con and the back of other buildings. Would recommend this hotel for a short break but room too small to stay in without going stir crazy . We didn't have breakfast as we wanted to try out the cafes in old town area

    Good Hotel

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Hotel de Florence Hotel for four nights in May, during the Cannes Film Festival and the build up to the Monaco Grand Prix. The hotel is just off the busy main shopping street in Nice, but does not suffer from excessive noise. It is situated within 5 minutes of the train and bus stations.

The first room that we were offered was very small. The receptionist was very friendly and changed our room. The hotel is clean and tidy and breakfasts were fine.

We booked the hotel and flight with Expedia and it proved to be a very good deal.

We thanks you to have choosen our hotel for your stay in May 2004.

    A good deal

    from anonymous

My wife and I stayed here mid-May 2004. A good hotel for the price. We booked through Expedia and got a special 'fourth night free' deal. Staff were friendly and helpful and immediately changed our incorrectly allocated smoking room on request. Our double room was small, the ergonomic layout was not the best and there was only a hand-held shower facility in the bath, but it was well soundproofed, clean and had the bonus of a fridge and some English speaking channels on the TV. The Hotel is on a side-road off Nice's main street, so shops of every description (including a supermarket) were in immediate reach. We are not breakfast people, so didn't try it but it seemed to be popular with other guests. They don't do any other meals, but there were dozens of restaurants in easy reach, including three immediately outside the Hotel door. Seemed like a very safe area and even the usual big city beggars were non-aggressive; we felt comfortable throughout our stay.

    Central location and friendly staff!

    from AndieC

My partner and I stayed at this hotel over the Easter weekend 2004.

This hotel was centrally located and only a short walk to both the main bus station and the train station which makes for easy access to Monte Carlo and Cannes. While our room was rather small, it was clean, very well presented and serviced daily. All rooms include a TV and a refridgerator which was very convenient. I would recommend this hotel as it was a reasonable price with friendly staff in a central location.

Great little hotel - value for money

    from BlueBubs

I went with my partner for a long valentines weekend in Feb. 2004 and it was lovely. We just happen to catch the start of the carnival of the clowns which lasted for 2 weeks. Everybody on the streets were having fun - it was an experience.. This was a great little family run hotel.

The rooms were very clean with a refrigerator and TV. If you don't want anything too luxurious but simple, this hotel is good value for money.

However, we did experience only one bad thing - we had breakfast one morning and several small individual portions of raspberry jam was mouldy even though it was within the best before date but I wouldn't blame the hotel for that - must have been a bad batch which they couldn't have noticed themselves. If you hire a car for your holiday at this hotel, they can arrange a discount with the local car park since parking within town can prove to be a problem and rather expensive.

Otherwise would not hesitate to go back there.

We thanks you to have choosen our hotel for your stay in March 04.

    Great time at Le Florence

    from anonymous

We got this place last minute this past weekend in Nice and were pleasantly surprised. We had a room for 3 people - we each had our own twin bed and it was quite spacious. There was a working refrigerator, A/C and a small balcony. The bathrooms were renovated and the staff was friendly and helpful. Best of all, it only came to 240 Euros for the entire weekend - less than $300. We even had a 4th crash in our room last nite and though the concierge seemed a little annoyed about it - he didn't charge us.It's only a 10 min walk to the old town and the beach.

We thanks you to have choosen our hotel for your stay in July 2003.

We stayed in the Hotel Du Florence in nice last February. It is a wonderful small hotel. The staff were very helpful with booking trips for us.The night manager even booked us on a trip at 12.30 am for 9am the next day, to Monte Carlo and Monaco. The breakfast was not included in the price of the room, it was a continental style buffet and was very welcome every morning. This hotel was close to the shops, old town, train station and the beach. My husbands parents are there at the moment for 2 weeks and are loving it.Well worth a trip!!
