... cheese, and had a tasting with some wine. Everything here includes wine! I won't complain.


Next was the balsamic vinegar factory in Modena. Best balsamic in the world! But if you taste it on just spoons, wow...not good. I said it tasted a mixture of honey and black licorice. Strange and not good. However, the white vinegar was soooo good, if you've never tried it, I highly recommend!

... Then it was back to the churches, though some were closing for the afternoon by now, and a walk down the road to see the fountain Michael had discovered on his walkabout on the first evening. At night this is lit by colours, but it still looks good in sunlight. By now most places were closing (they do the afternoon siesta well in Italy!) so we decided on a long lunch ourselves. Well there they all are....on every street corner...in nearly every cafe...even in the clothes shops. ... of the Mannerist and Baroque rooms being closed to the public today paled into insignificance compared to the pleasure of the half hour spent in front of this glorious little gem, almost being able to smell it!

Once the visit to the gallery was over then of course it was break for a strong coffee to try to get Joy back to earth before the next gallery..... The pinocoteca Stuard.....270 artworks in 22 rooms!!

... hotels (ours certainly is) some pleasant bars (we found one or two of those of course!) and at least two good trattoria style restaurants. Oddly enough, restaurants, of whatever price range, really have to be looked for - they don't pop up at every corner like many other towns.

Two other things you should know about Parma is the number of bikes, and the number of dogs. Bikes tool along the wide streets almost silently, and few ...
