... We kept looking for a place to buy our fruit tarts but there wasn't anything until we rode down a steep narrow exceptionally busy hill and into Cancale. It's obviously a hugely popular holiday place with lots of shops and restaurants on the beach front. The tide was out there too and boats were lying on their side on the muddy sand. The traffic was bumper to bumper so there was no point trying to ride so we walked our bikes along the street and in ...

Had coffee and croissant for breakfast. I have been very excited about having my first French croissant on this trip. We walked along the St Malo wall ...

On the way we stopped at a CarreFour Supermarket for wine and nibbles. Mont St Michel was first built in 708 as a sanctuary in honour of the Archangel. It is an awesome structure. A Monastery and Abbey and village behind an enormous wall built on a rock island in marshland in an ...

... a dike across the bay. The water would come in at high tide through the gates and then they could shut them to keep the water in. Then, when they wanted to use the mill, they could control the amount of water being let out which would in turn make the wheel go around. It would have been really neat to see the wheel in action, but either the tide was already out too far or they had just left it to fill and empty normally.

We decided to ...
