... most impressive; such a weight of stone atop a small mountain in an estuary.
There was a cruel machine in the shape of a winch which pulled a sled up the slopes to the abbey. The winch power was supplied by a wheel , much the same as the wheel we see mice running inside, only 3 or 4 metres in diameter. Perhaps after confession the monks got to work/walk inside the wheel in lieu of 3 Hail Marys.
The French Government is restoring the estuary with man ...

... ways a satnav can take you so I re-jigged it for 'shortest route'.
For once Garmin did itself proud, the roads were dry now it although it was cloudy, and we had some brilliant biking roads.
The only down side to picking 'shortest' is Garmin route planners will take you through some f**ker's front room if they could get away with it. So there was the occasional farm track and log pile but overall ...

Woke up at 6am to 'Two & half men' repeating opening titles "Men,men,men,men,menly men men men, ooohhh", laptop had been left on.
Went back to bed.
Next thing.....'Bing bong, ladies & gentlemen the boat will be docking in 15 minutes, please make your way to your vehicles'. But it's only 7am. The ticket says 8.15am.
Thanks Brittany Ferries, they don't say you board in English time but get off in French time who are an hour in front.

... the beach are huge stakes made from thick trees standing some 3-4 metres high which act as wave-breakers to prevent the huge seas pounding the residential seafront. A great tour. Lunch with most of the group was at Cafe Richard, apparently famous for its galette, a buckwheat pancake with a ham, cheese, and fried egg filling.
