So, yesterday, after Fort la Latte we were rushing... So much to see, so little time! It was just half an hour to Chateau de la Hudaunaye - what a strange name and no idea now to pronounce it - but that left us just an hour to look around before closing. ... walked with many family groups down a track and there was the fort on its little headland/island with the blue sky above and that sparkling emerald sea below. There were little paddocks cleared in the scrub with donkeys, goats, peacocks and a Highland cow - some sort of mini zoo? All was very neat and well kept, a big difference from Moncontour. We paid our Cinq Vingt and in the gate we went.

... was a "Jardin" up there apparently (she pointed to a flower growing in a pot by someone's door in case we didn't know what a Jardin was!) After the first flight I thought we'd better go ahead of her, the steps were really hard to get up and she was so tiny and frail and had a mighty big handbag and was dressed for church (bells still ringing). ... hour, then back down to earth and down to base camp.

I took a few photos and found Darius a tin of caramels, as requested.

Later in the evening Jonathan dashed over the bridge to the patisserie for a baguette to go with the remainder of our chicken and salad for dinner, and a slice if flan for afters. It has rained steadily all evening.

It had clouded over when we struck out up the hill. We read a few menus and then found a creperie which did just that, crepes - there are a lot of "creperies" here that seem to have very few crepes and a lot of frites and haches (chips and hamburgers) perhaps for the tourists from across the channel.
