However, we happen to meet another family from MN and they suggested the Casements, an enormous underground military defense system of tunnels - starting in 1644. It was over 14 miles worth of tunnels with many openings for cannons. Very narrow stairs and hallways and also a few very large rooms. It was dark and kinda creepy.     ... the place has little in common of what you picture of Switzerland. I's sandstone formations. The valley also is called Mullerthal because over centuries locals have hewn millstones out of the rock. You sometimes still see the circular traces or leftovers of broken ones.

    Cool start with mist looking like rain. Walked to the abbey after breakfast. Lunch in town, bought new shoes. Then car to Vianden Castle. To find one of the best castle self guided tours I have ever done. Great place with fabulous history and little township. ...

    ... we are writing this from now is Vianden. The town is's a tiny town with small cobbled streets, nesetled in a deep valley with a Castle / Chateaux overlooking.     ... us, one minute it seems to be French and around the next corner it would be German.

    From here the quickest route to our next stop was to drive over the Sure River, into Germany, cutting off a corner of Luxembourg and arriving in Vianden. As we entered Vianden we could just see the medieval castle looming over the town, framed by forest and shrouded in mist.
