... depictions of Jesus blah blah blah, was the Meridian line. The inside of the Basilica was less ornate than I have become used to, it was actually quite plain.
We had lunch at an Italian food court which was varied in choice - pasta, cold meats, cheese or cold meats, cheese and pasta or cheese, pasta and cold meats. We all shared one of each.
After the feeding frenzy of pasta, cheese and cold meats, we hunted down ...
... and one of the staff had spent time in Dublin at Blackrock College, so spoke great English with an Oirish accent. Well, an Italian one anyway! The really cute thing was the Nativity Scene (Presep as they are called here) where all the figures were fashioned with wine corks and caps. And then we noticed the shelf full of other, everyday, characters made in the same way. Very cleverly done. Joy took photos which we'll put in when time allows.

... not one church, but seven. With a mind numbing history and architecture. Joy has taken a zillion photos, which we will try to load soon. One problem with this hotel is that the Internet is very slow for loading photos, and we have to pay for it. Hmmm - like being back in the Dublin tour hotels! We'll get them up as soon as we can honest.

We decided it did not deserve a second drink, and walked onto to nice, little wine bar for a nightcap and a final taste of Bologna. Michael described it as a cross between Siena and Naples. The charm and atmosphere of Siena, combined with the size and frantic pace of Naples.
A great city though, which we are looking forward to exploring more fully ...

Lastly, we went to a small, local restaurant in the hills around Modena and feasted on about 8 dishes of pastas, meats (steak and rabbit), desserts, wines, digestivs, etc. We could hardly move afterwards. One of the highlights was going back in the kitchen to watch the women make tortellinis. We were done by 4:00 or so but we couldn't move for the rest of the night and certainly ...
