Good Morning Vancouver So we are near the boot of Italy tonight. Out on the coast at a small sort of B & B called Borgo di Santa Barbara. It is a few Kms past Tropea and not like the one closely named the same in California. In fact we are within sight of the sea, within meters of the railway line and within fewer meters of 6 goats and a rooster who thought it was morning about 5:30 when we arrived. The tours all ran as advertised but there is no free shuttle to Taormina so, as we have visited there many times, we decide to stay in Messina. The weather forecast is 80% chance of rain so armed with our raincoats in the bags we head off for a walk round town. There are lots of taxis offering tours to Taormina, Etna etc ...
... This is more mountainous than I expected, but silly me, of course Mount Etna is here, but not to be seen due to clouds covering it. Obviously the photo is not one that we took. We were only in the town for a couple of hours but the highlight was the Greek amphitheatre. It is at the top of the town and the view from the top of the amphitheatre was spectacular. The main street was full of shops, and packed with people due to the cruise ship being in. I would like more time ...
