I had 350 miles to cover if I wanted to hit France today, I couldn't face that on the back roads so did 200 miles on the Italian motorways, 3 hours & 26 Euro later.....I got back onto the A roads. It took me the best part of 6 hours to cover 150 miles over the mountains. I told the Satnav to avoid motorways and toll roads and then take me the shortest route......I can't decide whether that was a mistake or not because altitude wise I peaked ...

As we descended, the cloud moved and the sun was out...and she was right, there were some fantastic views and we saw some chamonix. Thee were parts of the walk where we were walking along ridges, something that did not agree ...
