Off to Umbria

... are teeming with families, young people and older folks just walking enjoying the cool weather, hot coffee and all sorts of chocolate products. I even caught a wedding happening on Sunday. We have another two days here and will return to Rome on Wednesday afternoon….just in time for dinner and a full day of touring before heading back hone on Friday morning.

Best to all back home,

Jorge

Not a bad place to spend the night...

We ended up in Orvieto sa we saw a friends photos of the catherdral and thought it was a must see. The cathedral was like a mini Florence Duomo, but 100% cleaner as the one in Florence is nearly black on the outside with pollution. The front facade on the cathedral is covered in beautiful gold leaf frescos that were glittering in the afternoon sunshine. Had a wander through the old town which was full of life as ...

In the Pits... and it's very pretty

... aqua duct. As we had a double celebration we celebrated with our last 2 bottles of pink champagne and opened the Fois gras we had bought in France! We enjoyed this pissnic as the sun went down and we were blessed with a wonderful sunset that kept going and going. Once the sun went down we drank in the views of the old town which lit up at night. 21st We really wanted a sleep in this morning as our heads were a little fuzzy from all the bubbles of last night but ...

Torre del Falco Description

... refuge, Villa Torre del Falco, blends a modern and contemporary aesthetic with a traditional and rustic ideal to create an unconventional environment that is simultaneously chic, serene, and inspiring. The 4 hectare private grounds command numerous breathtaking vistas. Nestled atop the valley surrounding Lago di Vico, and bordering the medieval town of Ronciglione, the villaʼs landscape is steeped in Roman and Etruscan history.

Too much travel, too little sightseeing

... which was just a free croissant from the restaurant next door. Then I relaxed in my room for a while until it was time to pack up and leave. And then I did another lap around the town.

I was very happy to finally get on the bus and be headed to Civita. It was actually a really nice bus ride. It was great to see the countryside a little closer, and there were some amazing views of Orvieto and Civita from a distance.

The bus actually dropped me off in Bagnoregio, the town ...

Popes should just buy bottled water

... us with Dan leading the way. The possible number of travelers had swelled to 10 at the haircut party last night, but homework, uncancelable plans, and the early departure time weeded out the maybes. We hopped on the train to the region of Umbria not knowing exactly what to expect. Orvieto was built on a hill made of volcanic ash which made it extremely porous. They had to dig down a long ways to reach water and ...

Orvieto - It Is All About The Cathedral

... if not more. It is quite an amazing sight. Sadly it is an amazing sight that I am not allowed to take photos of! I never take photos with flash, so it is a great pity as no harm would be done. I can't even slyly take a quick one as the guard is always on watch. The photos will have to remain in my mind. Indeed they are spectacular. After some more medieval wandering it is later in the afternoon. I return to the hotel, and then head back out to walk ...
