... back of a wine shop that was in my guidebook. Benoit was a great server at Cave des Abesses and Lyndsey and I practiced our French. We ordered a cheese plate and a Bordeaux, and toasted our upcoming journey. Each of us wanted to change shoes or drop off big cameras, so we stopped at a wine shop on the way back to the hotel and picked up a few bottles. ... busy streets, no open spaces to take the kids, lots of crosswalks and lots of cigarette smoke. Not easy if you have a stroller with 2 kids.
Being near a park was also important since we want to maintain our strict 3 times a week outdoor run schedule. But the distance was also the downside - it would means a 30 - 40 minute train ride to work (even though the driving distance is just 7.3 km) which is in the heart of town.
... anyway. If I went home first as planned, I wouldn’t be back at the boat for maybe another hour and a half, and it might make for a late night, which I didn’t want with a planned day trip to Brussels the next day. So I popped a few coins in the boat vending machine to get something to eat to tide me over for another hour and a half before I could get a decent meal.
