Onward to Uruguay by ferry S34 28.240 W57 50.967

... was like a millpond and the bikes did not even need to be strapped to the deck! A bit of a worry for Lou. There were 4 other BMW 1200 motorbikes on the ferry.

We rode off the ferry into a very hot Uruguay. Of course we had all our heavy riding gear on and became quite heat stressed very quickly. The Customs Officer was unfamiliar with the vehicle Carnae and kept us standing in the sun for some time while he was on the walkie talkie to the main office ...

A Whole New World...

... that were extremely friendly and fun to buy drinks for (it is obvious only us Americans have money to burn).
At about 3am I am ready to hit the sack, so after I get mocked for going home so early by the locals, I proceed to hop in a taxi and head back to the hostel. Bad news: taxi refuses to drive me there. Good news: after a few minutes of inebriated gringo arguing, I realize he won't drive me there because the hostel is 2 blocks away... who knew.
Life in Buenos Aires

... up.

Aside, from the partying there was plenty of time for relaxing and studying... well, if you study from 9 to 1 each day, in my book that counts as quite a lot of study. There was always time to get a coffee, a long lunch, a walk in the park, take time to get to know the city more... by just walking, or by museum. I know a lot more about Argentina now than before, not hard I must say. I even know who Evita is and what she was all about. And about the protest ...

... Katie's, yet in this instance she acted quickly and ordered only after the waiter stopped the second time at our table. Despite being 120 years old, the cafe had wifi.

After dinner we followed a tip from lonely planet and knocked on an unmarked red door. As promised we were buzzed in and let up into an old apartment turned bar. It was a cool scene that probably got better as the night passed. It was only 12:30 which is when the bar scene ...

Argentina

... more than delighted with a bbq steak lunch we had at one of the bodegas. Back in Mendoza in the evening we went to one of the many many lovely bars and continued the theme of the day. The following day was spent wandering round the town, which is very pleasant - clean tree-lined streets, pavement cafes and plenty of nice shops - and then in the evening we jumped onto a night bus to Bariloche, in the Lake District in the south of Argentina.

A brief word about Argentinian ...

#4: Raining, rats and dogs

... br>There was also a distinct lack of activity on the streets as I guess you'd expect in stormy weather. Only an odd one or two silhouettes, caught unawares in the bouncing deluge, were huddled below shop awnings - faceless in the darkness of shadow underneath.

With my steps gathering pace and a rising crescendo of electro-chaos filling the void between my ears, I forget to consider the consequences of shoes ...

Argentina: Buenos Aires (part 2)

... and cleaner than ours in London. In the short walk between the tube station and the park Jon managed to put his foot in a huge pile of very soft dog poo. It was HUGE. Unfortunately for him he was wearing flip flops and it literally came right over the top and between his toes. Actually feel a bit sick thinking about it. We had some water with us, and went to a chemist to buy soap so he could clean up properly. Don´t ...

Day 3: Apple Store, Japanese Garden, Tango music

... apartment for a rest, leave for Tango music at 8:30 P.M. We have time before we need to leave for the Apple store that opens at 10 AM. I dig into my luggage and find my personal notes of intentions and touchstones for this trip that I wrote before leaving. I read and revitalize my mind with two of my favorite quotes about travel: "One's destination is never a place, but rather a new way of looking at things." By Henry Miller ...

From La Paz to the Big Apple

... the crowd loved it. Not far away a middle aged man was drawing his own audience with some passionate denouncement of the Catholic Church. And you can´t walk a few metres around here without being confronted by La Paz´s notorious balaclava wearing shoe shine boys - according to Lonely Planet, many are university students who need the cash for their studies and choose to hide their identities from friends and family - and the ...
