Hi All, Well, we made it through the ordeal of Buenos Aires. Spent the last couple of days site seeing...recolleta cemetary was awesome! Adam insists he must be buried in a large crypt, possibly with a large bust of himself and several statues of mourning women (see the pictures). So on saturday we got on the plane for Peru! We were glad to be out of B.A., even though Eve had some fun, Adam was sooo sick and the place was very smoggy, hard to breathe, etc. And dirty, garbage in the gutters, d...
Lima, Peru adamandeveWe arrived in Lima at 7pm local time after a very interesting 19 hours. Upon leaving L.A we have never felt so uneasy in a plane as we did right after take off. The plane started making a funny noise, leveling out and not ascending further and we started circling back towards L.A both with a look of fear on our faces I am sure. The noise finally died down and sure enough they kept going as we started ascending up above the clouds on our way South. Upon arrival in San Salvador a vast majority ...
Lima, Peru escott10we arrived into guayaquil at 2pm on the 19th and went instantly to a marathon bus tour. we endured nearly 40 hours on the bus in a row. from guaya to tumbes in peru, arriving late(around 11pm) as usual. then right onto a bus to choco something or other without so much as a potty break. better yet, this bus had no bathroom to go overnight. very good. we got one on the side of the road at one point. arriving at 7 am to choco something, we then used a tuck tuck taxi to go all over the town looki...
Lima, Peru ireneandjason That blog title should come as no surprise to those who actually know us. We're addicts. Total addicts. Caryn needs her phone and I need my coffee...with soy milk. Apparently, Lima is not the place to indulge in our vices.
The day didn't start off half bad. After four hours of sleep we shuffled to breakfast, then to meet with a rep from the travel agency to get our bus vouchers for tomorrow's trip, and then finally met up with our tour guide.
We started the tour by seeing Mira...

I donīt think either of us really wanted to leave Oz, but the schedule said South America, so South America it was. The clock is now seriously ticking. First we had the small matter of crossing the Pacific Ocean, complete with international dateline. Concentrate now: we left Sydney at 10.15am on Monday, then arrived three hours later in Auckland at 3.15pm, five hours later. We left again after an hour and a half that seemed to really be an hour and a half, then arrived ten and a half hours la...

... cathedral there. The cathedral was beautiful but it was somewhat in ruins (the roof was badly damaged from earthquakes). Edi explained that the people used to use adobe bricks to make the churches but that adobe isn't very strong. This is why many of the buildings have collapsed in earthquakes. They also used to use bamboo amongst the mortar to hold up buildings. We also saw this bridge called Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of the sighs). Edi ...
Lima, Peru hmplewaLima signalled an achievement in the journey - we started on the Atlantic coastline in Rio 3 month's earlier and Lima gifted us our first sight of the Pacific - a whole continent crossed! Other than that, I am really not sure what to say about Lima, it is the most unremarkable place of the journey so far. It should be spectacular with it's ocean setting and should ...
Lima, Peru caroline_little... of the otherwise very poor and very unsafe city of Lima. We had stumbled across a Bed & Breakfast on the internet that was both very reasonably priced and had received an absolutely amazing review, largely thanks to the owner Angelo who, it was said, was incredibly friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable about Lima (and much more besides), so happy to help you get to know the city. We rang the bell and, sure enough, Angelo opened the door personally and greeted ...
Lima, Peru lauravanwaasJESS: I gave my second lecture in the morning about ventilator management in patients with pre-existing lung disease. The Dunkin donut holes I brought were a big hit. I spent the day in an orthopedics room- joint replacements, first a hip, then a knee. The first one was general and the second was spinal. The anesthesiologist Johny was very entertaining and reminded ...
