From Rome to Sicily
"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!" What a beautiful day in God's creation and in the ancient city of Rome. When we arrived on Friday, it was cloudy and rained some, but today was in the high 60’s when we left the hotel and the rest of the day was clear, dry with a wonderful breeze in the 80s.

Visited Taormina today
... is a bit of a blur...lol.
The highlight of Taormina was our visit to the ampi-theatre where we had some breathtaking views of the hills amongst the hills of Sicily.
Todd is really happy we brought our Nikon camera for this trip. It's so good to take pictures of the scenery with a good camera.

Into Sicily
Messina was only a stopping point after Salerno for one night. Messina is a critical city in Sicily, but only for transport. Every bus and train has to pass through here from the Italian mainland. There is not much here other than that. We arrived late and couldn't even eat dinner and left first thing in the morning. ...
Ferry to the mainland
At Messina, with lots of banging and shoving the train was loaded onto a ferry across the straits.
I didn't fancy being down in the bottom of the ferry and joined many of the other travellers on deck as we crossed. There was a massive thunder-storm with lightning silhouetting the mountains as we crossed.
I knew the crossing would disturb my sleep, so didn't properly settle down until we'd landed...
