... Salvatore grows oranges, lemons, figs and onions and we were sent off with a bag of these when we left the next morning..... lovely hospitality. From what we saw, Calabria is like the South Coast in the 80s: sugar cane growing on the side of the road, sea sand on the road, low ugly architecture. In fairness, we didn't go to the beach, but of all the places in Italy, I wouldn't rush back there as I find it ...

Mammola day 2

... We had a siesta and then headed to the town. Don bought an espresso and I had a gelato ingliese and creme caramel. We sat with our new friend Nicodemo Agostinos. He had befriended us on FB. Don showed him photos of Australia. Off we walked to the Town hall or municipio. The food was plentiful as usual and I have now developed a twitch each time I hear a kitchen door swing open as I hope they aren't bringing more food ...

Ostuni

... signage is not clearly understandable and sometimes there isn't any. We found a large car park in the lower part of town and stopped for photos. We did abit of shopping and enjoyed a self serve lunch at the local supermarket- Conad. The girl smiled at my salad which I later realised was so puny compared to the 2-4 plate loads of food other customers were getting. Back to the hotel we went tired and ready for a swim. That night we had booked with Angela our ...
