... declared an independent state during the student riots of 1968.

St Michel is now a lively district full of small cosy restaurants, half offering raclette and fondue as specialities. Outside one of these restaurants, La Demie Lune, there was a slim and spritely sixty-something year old who was ushering us inside. By 7pm they did board us and we got into the first course immediately. We cruised up to the Eiffel Tower and back. ... the train to Montmartre. There we climbed the hundreds of stairs to Sacre Coeur and then walked around the streets where there were heaps of artists all trying to sell paintings. Not sure of the artistic merit of them definitely none as good as Rachel. When we got back we did as Parisians do & went to the place de Vosges which is right near our place & we had walked through many times but never stopped at, ate an ice cream and sat in the park. It was good to ...
