Amorous or Foolhardy?

Over the last months of travel, we’ve met and talked with many people about what we’re doing. As you can imagine, we’re greeted with many responses. Most can’t fathom a trip without end or adgenda. Some say they admire what we’re doing. Setting off onour own, turning our back on convention and creating an adventure. Others think we’re fools. Although the woman who said that ...

NO Marseille for the Caswell's today!!

NO MARSEILLE for us!!! The captain went by when we had 21 foot waves and winds of 50 gusting to 65. It was sunny but not good enough to dock in Marseille, so on to Barcelona we go. In spite of it, we had a great relaxing day and i had a 3 hour nap this afternoon. Naps are totally not my thing but apparently i was exhausted from our whirlwind schedule. Anyway, nothing exciting. We have seen numerous people in arm slings and just ran into a woman in a ...

What a nice surprise

... believe our luck. It was so nice. Still, warm and crystal clear water on sandy beaches. We had a quick swim but knew we had to leave to get to Avignon on time. We then decided that if we found a campsite that was open we would stay. The first 2 we came to were closed and we were sad...but around at st clair beach one was open! Woo hoo!!!! 2 very happy girls. That night we played in the sand like kids ...

LOST & FOUND IN MARSEILLES- BLUE BALLS & ALL

... within walking distance, so that’s what I do, exploring a new neighborhood as I go. After a few missed turns I finally locate the Bar de la Plaine, a small place on Place Jean Jaures. The band is already playing and the small place is packed- it’s a free mini-show in anticipation of his 10-year anniversary next week- so I stand outside with the smokers and take my place by an open window, no more than ten ...

VISIONS OF MARSEILLES

... where the man needs two women to scrub him down, rinse him off, then… hmmm, it’s starting to sound better. Every time I think of a bidet, I think of Henry Miller’s Tropic.

My hotel apparently even has a language test, which I barely passed. First she tells me she has no room, and then changes her mind when I inquire about the next day. The only problem is Internet. WiFi is not standard in anything less than $100/night and no ...

... simply because you are foreign, do not tolerate it. Take your arm, extend it, and push him back behind you or off to the side. If he attempts to break the line again (and he will), repeat as necessary along with loud English. Eventually he will see you are not a pushover tourist.

(2) If you approach a service desk and the clerk ignores you, wait about 60 seconds. He or she might be busy (highly doubtful but possible). If ...

Where France isn't French Anymore

My ticket here on Ryanair (another decent flight) said France, all the signs were in French last night, but I definitely woke up somewhere else other than France this morning. About 7am I heard various muezzins calling all the muslims to prayer on the loudspeakers at the mosques. I didn't think anything of it at first and rolled back over and went back to sleep. About ten minutes later I woke up again and the chanting was still going on and it hit me...I am in ...

Orange & Chateauneuf du Papes

... about how their rocky soil is a big key to the flavor and depth of their wines. The rocky soil holds in the heat during the daytime and keeps the vines from getting too cool at night by releasing that heat back out at night. There were a number of vineyards harvesting their grapes as we drove past (big grapes!), as well as the occasionally slowly moving grape hauling truck filled with the grapes ready for crushing. Their were vineyards which had ...

The longest ferry ride in the world

... We saw a pool on the large map on the wall and got excited. I didn't have my swim trunks on, but Ryan said he would sport his "banana hammock". We get to the top level only to find the pool empty. Screw it! We wanted something to eat. We walk around the ship and ev**yone seemed ****** off. Most times your on a cruise ship ev**yone is happy. Not this time. We spent all our cash on the bus and f**ry tickets and we didn't go to the ATM. All we had togeth** was 7 Euro. We ...

Nice

We have arrived, gotten some sleep, eaten great food, drank the wine, been to the beach, and tomorrow off to gamble in Monaco. Kids are having fun and all is good. Weather is 80 and low humidity. Bob and I have walked every where. Kids like the beach......boys like the topless girls. Ani was fully dressed....I did not see her so who knows. Miss everyone!!!!!
