... thankfully this ended well! I arrived, unloaded, got signed in and found a supermarket! Bought some veggies and fruit to ward off scurvey and, what I thought was milk but later turned out to be some creamy gross stuff that I had to throw in the garbage with Flair!

The next morning is my tree day, I woke up feeling rather gross with a foggy head and a nose that was running away from me. I decided to take ...

Bologna

Short train ride from Florence after a hair raising trip trying to return the rental car in confusing, congested and traffic restrictied Florence (don't rent a car downtown go to the airport). Bologna is an university town (even Johns Hopkin has a campus). Very historical town with a great plaza area like most towns and a great antique market.

Tour de Bologna

... miles from a little town north of Bologna to Ferrara. Luckily they have bike friendly trains here, because that's how we got home.

That night, we met Gherardo, a friend of my former professor's, who used to live in DC, so spoke very good English, for dinner. He took us to a "typical" Bologna restaurant, I ate amazing bolognese, and we peppered Gherardo with questions about Italy, Italians ...

Happy Birthday Dad

WE WOULD LIKE TO WISH MY DAD A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR TODAY!!!

We made it upto the top of the swiss alps, we hired snowboards yesterday which was weird in the middle of summer. Matt went to the top of the alps and then down to the swiss town of Zermatt (I had to wait down the bottom because I couldnt balance my snowboard on the bloody pomma lift) I swear that lift was about 10kms long and was going up a 90 degree hill ...

Beating Warriors Bologna

... open, he thought, "Oh, bravo Eric." It was pretty funny the way he phrased it to me. I told him in flag football back at my university that was our go to play on the goaline, I'd roll right then throw a drag back left. Our defensive coordinator asked me if I was tired. Not that I was, but I will never be too tired to turn down a chance to play safety. We played a soft cover four with only 30 seconds left in the half. On second down they tried to throw a ...

Bologna and the Beach

... find ingredients for things like Indian curries, Mexican tacos, Chinese stir fries etc. You have to go to some effort to find these ingredients. The shops here tend to only specialise in one type of product rather than being one-stop shops which is great because they stock more quality products rather than cheap ****** production line stuff. The cost of living here is about the same as in Australia, however the Italians tend to earn about half what we earn in ...

The worst pre-trip yet! (on the way to Scotland)

... my crit, hadn't even gotten to Erin and I. I was starting to get nervous...so Erin yelled at me to leave so I don't miss my train and that she'd take care of the desk crit (did I mention she's an angel?). So I practically sprint back to my apartment to meet Kelly, alternating between speed walking and actually running, in my boots mind you. Finally, winded I grab my jacket and scarf and we're back to marathon speed walking to SMN. After much frantic arm swinging ...

Bologna- Day 3

... students were in an uproar. They didn't think the punishment should have been so extreme. So, the majority of them left the university and went to other schools to study. The city realized how much they had needed the money from the students, and that they had been a bit too harsh. So, they offerent economic incentives so the students would return. They lowered the rent, etc. etc. Finally, representatives of the students and ...

Maranello – Verona – Iseo

... br>
Once inside the gates and his passport was checked, our cameras, phones and anything else capable of taking photos were locked away in the reception room and then we were transported by bus across to the far side of the factory site. But that was pretty much where the close supervision of the dozen or so owners and their guests ended. For the next few hours I was amazed how the tour guide didn’t seem to mind how far away we wandered from her in ...

June 10, 2002

Back on the bus! This time to Italy!! We went to Pisa (and had pizza for lunch!) We saw the tower, of course, and the church. Got to shop in the souvenir shops and sit for awhile in the sun. Very peaceful day. I can tell I'm getting tired, because the travel journal entries are shorter and shorter!

We were in ...
