    Because Insignia is a relatively small cruise ship, it is able to anchor in the bay off of Taormina. Larger ships need to dock in nearby Messina or Catania, as we have on previous cruises.

    It's actually a big deal, because seeing Taormina from the water is a treat. It’s nestled in the hills above the sea, and glowed golden for us in the morning sun.

    ... The day was very hot - 30C at 8am and probably close to 40C in the afternoon. As a result, we did not have the clearest views of Etna.
