    ... car which gets you up a further 500m, then you need to be driven or walk the last 400m to the summit crater. It was going to be €62 each and given the conditions we were not going to see much. In a way this was no different from Mt Ruapehu, lots of scoria rock and fantastic views when the sky is clear.     Finally out of the rain and on the train headed for Siracusa, we feasted on the picnic put together from the Catania fish market and a little bakery on our rainy route to the station. By the time we arrived in Syracusa the rain had stopped and the skies started to clear.

    We travelled via Cefalin, a former fishing village, and visited the cathedral there, then we had lunch at Miraglia Forest where the restaurant is part of a farm. We walked down the long driveway lined with pines and past some pigs, (whose relatives were on the menu). It was a little challenging to find the place and the man who sold us the ticket was difficult to understand, and there were no signs with prices.
