Grand Hotel Veliko Turnovo

... he lives in Istanbul and is a hang glider, here in Bulgaria for the mountains' promise of pure adrenaline. He travels with an overnight bag ( maybe more evolved than me as a back packer) We found Hikers hostel where we dropped our stuff, cleaned up and strolled Bulgaria's "cultural capital" Plovdiv.

... changes of clothing and will have to work out where Helga can sleep as rain is forecast. The route is also being revised too but they do know what they're doing so its a meeting of minds on lightness. We also agree a 6.30 am departure time.

Surprisingly we do manage to cram three sleeping bags, mats, tent, food and water into two packs so the deal is done. I'm a bit nervous about such a lightweight affair and also that the girls are way fitter than me.

... was just a tap at hip-height on the wall, but nobody cared because we got to sleep in a BED!!!! We were in dorms and I was sharing with a bunch of the girls.



Bulgaria is mostly Greek and Eastern orthodox, so we got to celebrate our second Easter Sunday. At 11pm the bells rang out into the night to call the monks to mass, and some of the group rang in Easter with a candle-light ceremony in the chapel, but I was tucked away in bed by this point!

... entertain ourselves, and be on-the-go. We must see these things, we must finish off those sites by tomorrow, we must take photos to show people that we have been there. Can we ever truly relax and live in the moment? I want to be able to enjoy the simple things about traveling and not rush about things anymore. I think I finally understand what it means for the process to matter more than the actual destination.

They were certainly not the rich blues and oranges found in other churches. But there was a sort of realism...while almost Munchesque at the same time...though there existed several different styles of paintings.
