As I'm writing we’re having yet another thunder and lightning storm with torrential rain. The weather forecast every day for the last 2 weeks has been the same; change of thunder showers. It hasn’t thundered every day but the reason for the forecasts is evident. The high temperatures and humidity are back and it’s now "stinking hot" – up to 40 with the humidity. What used to be a comfortable walk to the wet ...

Last Saturday we went to a Chinese tea which one of the staff organized. It’s a very popular thing to do and the best tradition we’ve come across this year! ... this year. We said our goodbyes Friday morning as they headed homeward and travelled down to HK that afternoon to meet Myra and Jim who had arrived earlier in the week. It rained all day Saturday so it was a museum day, but that cleared the air for a perfect week of weather here in Dongguan. From here, they left for Beijing where they joined a tour before travelling on to Korea. It really was wonderful having them all stay with us and they all have lots of ...

Some Houjie love, and a big Buddha

... buzzing! It was in a little square, with many shrines and also a massive place to put your burning incense. The whole area was smoky and smelled really nice! There were even giant incense sticks that they were trying to light in these big furnaces but it wasn't really working! Great views, obviously the Buddha was supposed to be the main attraction and it was pretty impressive, we were able to walk halfway up it too. It's obviously not a very old Buddha but it was ...
