Ayvalik, Balikesir, Turkey traceybelleWhy are we leaving gorgeous Ayvalik, our stunning guesthouse and lovely friends to go and see ruins I wonder as Tania harries me off to the bus stop.

Two hours later and having checked into a hotel where the owner admits "I am Gobi" (yep really) we trek uphill solidly for the next hour and it's 35 degrees plus. Bergama, Izmir, Turkey welovemondays... off our day at a wonderful and welcoming cafe on the same blk as our pension-Osmanti Sofrasi. Michael had iskender (gyro meat w/ oregano tomato sauce on top of flat bread served with yogurt and bulger) I ordered lentil soup and some type of puffed delish bread- Off to Selcuk tmrw!
Bergama, Izmir, Turkey moberts... weren't communicating really well, but I did hear the word su, water. And, maybe dragons, or wild boars. And, I did perceive an offer to drive me to Bergama--without charge (ucretsiz). It seems they were going anyway. They were going anyway! I mean, of all the people in this small village, I was caught at the last moment by the only ones intending to drive to Bergama this late afternoon day! And, just as they were exiting their enclosed compound! Look, I don't go ...

Bergama, Izmir, Turkey asci... and especially their staffs were excellent. In Selchuk we had walked for a long ways in search of a guesthouse our friend Erin had recommended from her stay only two months before only to find that it had closed down! The Nur Pansyion just down the street proved to have nice rooms, a lovely courtyard, great food, and super friendly/helpful staff - a great and lucky find. In Bergama we ignored the sales tactics of a charismatic old man selling his ...
Bergama, Izmir, Turkey jenandjeffmilum... end of this season. It is very inexpensive, the people are very friendly, open and helpful, the cuisine is varied, interesting and, mostly, delicious. The history and historic sites are as good, if not better than those in Greece. The bazaars are fun, although not entirely hassle free. Turkey really does tourism well. While we were in Bergama it was National Tourism Week and we witnessed many school bands parading to town squares and being addressed by local ...
Bergama, Izmir, Turkey chickensafloat... proceeded to eat him. The next day, we took a city bus to the Konak area in the center of Izmir, the a cab to the huge Otogar (bus station) on the far end of town. We bought tickets to Bergama, another ancient city that is still populated today and is only a two-hour ride away. The bus had assigned seats and initially I sat next to Aili, with Gisela across the aisle. Then ...
Bergama, Turkey zigdog1... around and travelling to the graves and cemeteries of the fallen, that it all sinks in. Quite an amazing place. Sure I could dribble on here for ages about this and that and all the rest, but probably the best thing for you to do, is if you get the chance to visit Turkey, take the time to shoot down to Cannakle or Ecbate and check it out for yourself.. After the tour, a very quick beer (because apparently it was Beer O'clock ...
