Today we went to the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It is a beautiful building and a very peaceful place of worship. All the women who visit have to wear an Abaya and a Shayla. It was crazy hot and the Mosque is all white with marble floors so it is like a huge reflector. After that we ran around the city and looked at some of the other major sites. Climbing to the top was no easy feat! These dunes make ...

I am curious about the bathroom etiquette. First toilet I visited had no toilet paper or hand towels and many users walked out without washing their hands at the basin. I did note the hose in each toilet but am not sure I heard them being used, the second toilet block I used and continued to use had 2 cleaners permanently located in the toilets cleaning the cubicle after each use. They also directed users ...

... and had to be cajoled ('just until after we take off, and then we'll see what we can do')into going to the properly designated ones. Fox had read that UAE travellers have gotten a bad reputation for being overly demanding but she had never seen it until then.

On another note, when the plane from Abu Dhabi to San Francisco departed, there were dozens of women wearing abaya, but as the hours passed, more and more cast it aside until, on arrival, Fox only saw one with it still on.
