... going back and no-one telling me til the next morning over breakfast!)... When the boat departed from Koycegiz I was the only person on it - aside from the driver/captain and his mother (who was also the cook; the waitress and a better skilled sailor/navigator than her son who on the way back, slept at the back of the boat while she steered!!). I was on my own for an hour as we sailed out ...

6 ladies, two men, two weeks, only 1 Turkiye!

I was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)

Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.

Ruined by Tourism

I hate coming to places that have been ruined by tourism. Marmaris in Turkey is one such place. I have absolutely loved Turkey - fantastic people, interesting cities and some of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The sole exception was Marmaris, which whilst not a bad experience can be used to explain the negative things that happen when an area goes too far into the tourist market place.

So is a touristy area a bad thing? Not ...

... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.

We stayed in the dorm that night because the hotel was so empty that no one else was staying there and it was cheaper. No one else was staying there in part because Fez had chosen a hotel about 15-20 minutes out of the ...

A Hike Above Kas on May 13

... the world, if it is not a pine tree, is probably a thorn bush. Even the ones with the pretty yellow flowers that look from a distance like Scotch Broom.

An irony was--well, two, actually--I began the hike/climb at the base where there was a sign indicating the beginning of a segment of the Lycian Way (http://www.lycianway.com/index.html). I hiked up the trail a short way to a point that, marked by a power line pylon, I thought was at the base of the "cleared" up slope line. I ...

The kindness of strangers

... us for a long time. Peter writes .... The past two weeks have been a bit of a blur. The boat was lifted out of the water at a marina not too far from Marmaris for routine maintenance which we expected would take about three or four days. Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse and we had to do a bit of surgery on the rudder. Wanting to make the most of the time out of the water we then decided to have some ...
