... schooners. Made out of ironwood, the ships are the last wind-powered fleet in the world and are used to transport goods between the many islands of the Indonesian archipelago. We watched as they were loading and unloading cargo using man-power rather than machinery. We drove through old Batvia (Kota Tua) with its many old Dutch buildings on our way to the traditional "wet market" where we took a walk, passing vendors selling everything from flowers to fruits and ...

... the building mainly. There were some nice ships inside, but the building was a restored warehouse from the Dutch trading company, VOC.

From there, the guidebook said to go and see this harbour. As soon as I got there, a creepy man started touching my arm and telling me he was a tourism officer. It was not far away but the car traffic on top of the motorcycles made the journey take longer than it should. Pak Ajis is such a good and patient driver. Nothing seems to stress him out but then again I guess he did grow up with the traffic.

Taman Indonesia is a giant park designed to show the visitor the many different ...

... labyrinth of tiny alleys, we found the place that had everything we were looking for. In the evening, we had dinner and went for some drinks at Memories. They had live music, but it sounded more like karaoke night. At some point, a Spanish couple with a beer too many got on the stage. We didn't know wether to laugh or to hide our faces in shame. Even though the actual singer hurried to take the mic off their hands and everyone was in ...
