Amazing Argentina!! We traveled to Argentina for our first wedding anniversary in April 2006. This was, without question, one of our favorite all-time destinations and one of our best trips ever. Coined the "Paris of South America", Buenos Aires is truly a remarkable city. It is extremely sophisticated and cosmopolitan; it's much more European than Latin and is a melting pot of European immigrants, mostly from Italy and Spain. We loved hearing multiple languages and of course I loved having t...

... of the little critters scavenging in the bins. Soon the train arrived. The five us us hopped into the open carriages and we were off. The journey lasted maybe ten minutes or so, and we were dropped off at the beginning of the Paseo Garganta del Diablo (Devil´s Throat Walkway). The metal walkway is about one kilometre long and built out over the river, leading all the way to the top of the waterfall. The walk in itself was pretty cool, as the river and surrounding trees are very ...
Puerto Iguazu, Argentina alastair6... believe it having seen it. After than we headed home. (Funny that that paragraph didn´t seem to merit as much type as ´8 Below´.)
That night we cooked chili for the girls, their new friend and hence our new friend, Jess, and massively uncharismatic English bloke names John, who was strategically seated next to Tom. Having a group of people and a home-cooked meal, bottle of wine, beers etc, made me feel extremely civilised and extremely happy. It felt ...
... maak 'n plan'. Go there. You have to see it for yourself.
Puerto Iguazu served only a base to see the falls so no further need to hang around so we climb into the long awaited and much anticipated 'Total Cama' bus (total luxury buses that Argentina is well known for: seats recline just about flat, they serve food, wine, beer and champagne). We are very excited for the next 18 hours which will take us to Buenos Aires...
We went to the Brazilian side of the falls yesterday. We organised our transport from the hostel and went with Brian, a guy from Ballincollig who we met the previous night. We picked up a few other people in Marco Polo Hostel which is another HI (hostelling International) hostel and off we went over the border. We had to get out at Brazil border again to get our passport stamped. The day was more overcast yesterday but at least it was dry (for a while ...
Puerto Iguazu, Litoral, Argentina sharor... the walkway taking some really good pictures. At the devils throat you get up rather close to some of the falls, but you do get a little wet from the spray. We also took the elevator to the highest platform for views above the falls looking down. Along with the seeing the falls we also spotted some fury friends, raccoons, and lots of different butterflies. Much to Daniels disappointment we didn't spot a Puma ...
Foz de Iguacu, State of Parana, Brazil dlz... China. The whole idea is to sell Duty Free stuff to Brazilians and Argentinians coming over just for that, but most of what's available is really ****. That said, it still seems that it's working, given the amount of stuff for sale!
The border formalities are a mess too. Argentina requires a "real" border crossing every time, with stamps in the passport and everything. Brazil, stuck in the middle of that mess, doesn't care about anything and trusts ...
... Cappybara, Turtle, Spider Monkies,Fish, and the Coatis ( pests). We ended the trip with the amazing Garganta del Diablo ( Devils throat) which was something else...so much water, mist, rainbows and noise it was super. We just visited the falls from the Argentina side which is suppose to be the best.. Check out the photos as I was snap happy!
Puerto Iguazu, Litoral, Argentina spanglish_timesThe bus journey to the falls was quite painful because we got stuck in a two hour tailback just after leaving BA, so we (eventually!) arrived in Puerto Iguacu 18 hours after leaving BA. Ouch.
Thankfully we'd booked cama (fully reclining) seats, so it could have been worse. It was an 'executive ...
... but it was good to soak up a few rays and chill out for an hour or so.
After chilling on the beach (which we had to ourselves) we walked back to the road via a nice little lake tucked away in the woods, which ...
