The Eagle has landed

... turned up and Jen had stepped in to take up the lessons aboard. The two children Orlando and Allegra were very nice kids. Jen was worried as she got seasick easily. A cheery lass from Seattle - the same as Bradley, so they had common ground from the word go.

The boat looked very tired, but the worry was that there was so much gear we felt should have been there in tip top condition, and it wasn't. Oh dear!! Kevin was helping ...

Second Last stop....

... for high ranking Nazi officers. Don't ask me how I found it.... I stupidly mentioned that to her forgetting that she was German and I don't think it went down well. The people who ran the place were an old couple who only spoke Italian and it took about 20 minutes of sign language to show that we were not a couple and wanted separate rooms. Cagliari seemed to be full of Germans who all were getting a cheap Ryanair flight out. Met another German girl who ...

The storm

... we’d likely get stuck – but there you go.

We land up in the middle of some marshes at one point and we sit and watch several large birds of prey circling in the air – it had finally stopped raining.

When we arrived back at the monastery we bumped into Alan and his wife again – they had managed to find a bus timetable that said they could get a bus back from Villasimius at 4pm along the coastal road, that would stop fairly near ...

City under the sea

... there are remains of thermal baths, mosaics and the only amphitheatre on Sardinia.

We end up spending most of the day here – exploring the ruins, walking up to the tower and the surrounding areas. Food has been incredibly expensive in Sardinia and we find a place for lunch that has the most reasonable prices we've seen so far. There is a really sweet looking cat sat right beside me, so I feed it some of my ...

Which way?

... to find our way down to a deserted cove at one point, where we stopped for a drink break for a while, but eventually we had to accept that we were beaten and head back on the path to the beach.

We walk back along the beach, past where we originally joined, to the other end to see if we could get any more joy that way. After clambering across the rocks this end, we come to another sheltered cove, but again no way of going any further – so we decide ...

A river too far

... deep it gets in the middle – I have flimsy shoes on, so decide to change into my trainers, which are in the boot of the car – I get them out of the boot and start to put them on, just as a large 4 x 4 vehicle comes up behind us. John says he’s going to move our car out of the way, so he slams the boot, gets in the car and then shouts something out of the window to me. I don’t always hear too well and by the time I’ve processed what he’s said ...

Not all roads lead to Rome

As we're starting our descent into Cagliari airport, there is one word to describe the view - Bella! It's beautiful. Sometimes you picture a place in your mind and it doesn't turn out to be what you expected, well this was everything I'd pictured and perhaps more.

Have you ever heard the saying 'all roads lead to Rome'? Well on Sardinia all roads lead to Sestu!

We picked the hire car up at the airport and then spent the next couple of hours driving ...

The Italian Job

... that has been consuming the lives of many young people today. When watching CNN at home, I was rather shocked to see that they’ve added a section to their reports regarding “tweets” on their twitter page. Bravo, CNN, quite intellectual reportage! I guess the higher authority wanted CNN to be up to date and “hip” like most young people reporting their daily lives via twitter. Kinda makes me appreciate having a subscription ...

Pizza, Pasta & Parents

... trying to find somewhere to use the internet. So far all week it had been really hard to find anywhere, it's like they are not interested in it or just more interested in parading around the streets in the evenings. Someone told us there were some machines down at the port so went to find them after going to the supermarket. Whilst Granville sorted his email, Cesca, Andrea and I sat outside enjoying the warm sunshine. By now it was lunchtime so we headed around a ...
