... I am encouraged that I will soon be arriving with family. I can put my travel miles card away, put my feet up and have a proper vacation. Because as I've been saying to some people. This is not a vacation, it's Hard Work!

I arrived in Ferrara at 5:30ish on Monday evening, It was already starting to darken, the skies saying goodnight for a while. I found my hostel with only asking one person for ...

Bologna

Short train ride from Florence after a hair raising trip trying to return the rental car in confusing, congested and traffic restrictied Florence (don't rent a car downtown go to the airport). Bologna is an university town (even Johns Hopkin has a campus). Very historical town with a great plaza area like most towns and a great antique market.

Tour de Bologna

... an hour. No one follows these limits. I know because Mandi and I found ourselves on such a road, on singlespeed step through bikes, getting passed by Porsches, Minis, and giant semi trucks headed north at 100 km an hour. At first we thought it would get better. Then we resigned ourselves to our fate. We were going to do this, no matter how crazy it was. And that's how we ended up biking nearly ...

... time to stop over before Belgrade.

Unfortunately, the night was brief as I had to be up by 4am. I like to think that some of Denny´s exuberance sustained me during the 17 hours of transit by bus, train, bus, plane, bus, and finally train again, before finally meeting up with Pavel and Gosia at 9pm in Valencia for the next leg ...

-Dave

Beating Warriors Bologna

... came flying off the edge at me. I ran right as if trying to get the corner, before stopping abruptly and running back left. Marco had a few steps on his defender and I lobbed the ball to the left corner for him and two points. Back on the sideline, I received numerous congratulations. Marco told me that when I had originally told him to drag left he was a bit leery (my word not his) but then when the play started and all the defenders ran right and left ...

Bologna and the Beach

... so. They buy all their drinking water because it doesn't taste very nice from the tap. Because this is so common, you can buy 6 packs of 2 litre bottles for about 3 euros. When you go to a restaurant you always have the choice between natural/flat mineral water, and sparkling mineral water and it's the same with the six packs at the supermarket. The supermarkets here tend to be much smaller than in Australia (more like an IGA) and only stock Italian food - you will ...

The worst pre-trip yet! (on the way to Scotland)

Well, FINALLY I'm on a plane to Scotland. Yes. I said FINALLY. You have no clue what I have just gone through...oh but you will...sit back and get ready to gasp in astonishment, sigh in relief, and laugh at my awful luck we all know I have...(which ultimately as always - it all comes out in the wash and everything is okay)... Our train was scheduled to leave at 6:20 from the SMN train station in Florence (the one we normally go out of). It was quarter of 6 and Carlo ...

Bologna- Day 3

... medieval times, Bologna's economy depended heavily on the students. However, it was difficult because all of the students were male and there were a lot of them. One young Spanish student (whose name I can't remember) began courting a young woman. The problem was that she was either the daughter or granddaugher of one of the university's professors. He was enfuriated and the male student went on trial. In the end, he was killed ...

(Originally published at http://www.troysgonewalkabout.com)
< br>Though it’s free of charge, not everyone can tour the Ferrari factory – there’s just the small matter of admission being limited to those who actually own one. But with Hoges the proud owner of a blue 1979 Ferrari 308 and a member of the Australian Ferrari Club, it had been a relatively straightforward process of cross-checking his chassis numbers and then setting a date to come ...

... for dinner. It’s a beautiful spa town and smells good! I took a long walk through the park and had a Gran Marnier on the patio. Peggy had Amaretto which pleased the bartender/host. He didn’t like my ordering a French liqueur! The hotel was one of the nicest on our tour.

We left our window open and it was actually cold when we got up!
