    For hard seats we were very impressed by the comfort we enjoyed on the train and all had reasonable if short and broken sleeps. We got off and smoothly transferred to a bus just across the road from the train station which took us to Tangkou, the entry point to the mountain. Once we got to Tangkou though things were less clear. In my lonely planet book it reads as if from there you just start walking up an obvious flight of stairs, however there were all sorts of queue barriers ...

    ... Troy and the girls hiked it. We were so glad we spent the 80 rmb on the cable care though. It was absolutely stunning. The clouds stuck close to the mountain but the cable car emerged out of the clouds and we saw the huge green mountains on all sides. It was a stunning ride. We took about 200 photos each in the short 10 minute ride.

    Our trip ended with the Chinese bluffing game, magic tricks, and songs on the bus. We ate dinner at Vineyard ...

    ... to look out over the rock formations and see some of the pine trees that have grown in some crazy and unique shapes thanks to the harsh conditions on the rock faces. There was even a particular tree that our guide pointed out to us that had been in its iconic location for at least a couple hundred years, and the one before that (destroyed by lightning) was said to have been planted by one of the emperors.
