      Longish drive today out of Austria into Slovenia and then to Croatia where we picked up a local female guide. She took us first to an historical village Kumrovec which was Tito's birthplace .       ... There was plenty of clearance for even the tallest among us, unlike the mine in Wales. Eons of dripping, mineral-filled water through the karst formations created stalactites and stalagmites, some of which have joined to create huge columns. At other points we saw limestone pools, shaped very much like those Mandy and I saw in Turkey at Pamulkale (but without the gorgeous white coating and pale blue water).

      ... take a seat and he would tell us where to get off. When we did get off he pointed us in the right direction and then we had to walk about 2km uphill before reaching the gorge. It was worth the effort - the views were quite impressive, especially when we reached the waterfalls towards the end of the 1.6km walkway.
