Day 1: Here we go again...

More than just a Canal
... the process of getting them entering the canal. It can't be explained in words without making it sound boring, but it really was anything but! Afterwards we headed to Albrook Mall as we were told it was FANTASTIC (and cheap) for shopping. What we weren't prepared for was how massive it was! With over 6 departments stores, 4 foodcourts and I couldn't even guess how many individual stores, it took us most of the day to get through it all. Brendan definately had a lot more luck than Jane. ...
Panama City
... and 40% longer I think. Currently, new ships being built are built according to the dimensions of the Panama Canal. And looking at these massive cargo ships, they literally just managed to fit, with a margin of 30cms only on each side. To stop the ships from hitting the side of the canal they have electronic little train that maintains the ship in the middle of the canal.

A Jones. A Plan. A Canal. Panama!
... to join the damn parade whether we liked it or not. Luckily, we liked it. :) It wound through Old Town with dancing women, military displays, and marching bands. Quite fun, but also hell hot, so at noon we grabbed a taxi and headed outside the city to Panama's crowning achievement, The Panama Canal.
So if you're like me, you imagine the Panama Canal - aka "the World's Biggest Ditch"- as a massive canyon ...
