... to the Rio Verde by my normal return route - a badly damaged track which crosses the Barranco des los Chortales and arrives in the main valley near an old building which is set into the rocks. From this point, I'm on new ground, turning right to take another track (in much better condition), leading gradually up the western side of the valley.

Moving along we went and checked out the Alcazabar (fortress) which was a bit more defensive and utilitarian - and also housed the remains of the dungeons! We had some striking views out over the city but at this point we only had less than an hour to finish our tour of the fortress and amble through the gardens, known as the Generalife, and the Summer Palace.
