... s mission is to provide valuable skills and techniques to our teens while also being a self-sustaining or even profitable area of the Organization.
The Credit system we set up has been running smoothly and the teens are very happy to now have some of their own spending money and the ability to save up for items they really want. They are also starting to gain a firmer grasp on concepts like interest, loans, debt, and budgeting- all steps forward. Furthermore, a few of the ...
... date (Gracias a Dios) despite protester-police clashes in the capital and other big cities. The media down here has been overwhelmingly biased in favour of the coup since the news media is controlled by a small number of very wealthy Hondurans. The President who they removed from power had recently taken a turn farther left and moved closer to Hugo Chavez; this did not sit well with Honduras’ ruling class. Thus, they used a minor opening to push Manuel ...

Survived my first earthquake and I didnīt even feel it because I was sleeping!
Finally a computer that will let me update! I donīt have much time because weīre at the airport waiting on another intern to arrive.
Last week I arrived with the first Park Plaza group. We went to Las Cabas to work. We had a lot of fun and got a lot accomplished. We built 9 and a half ...
... I have eight boys in my class and they are fun and more or less excited to learn. Furthermore, we are starting a new project for the teens which is hopefully going to help them learn skills such as budgeting, saving and money sense. The project is a credit system where the boys that work earn some credits (like an allowance for doing a good job at work) for working in the fields, cooking the 400 tortillas we consume a day or learning in the wood shop. They ...

At first they were very suspicious but once they realized it was free they were shouting over to their neighbors and everyone was bringing their kids outside. Good news travels fast! Right when we were about to move on, another 10 kids ran up the hill! This continued in each community that we visited. Today was a huge success!
Tonight Mary taught us how to make taquitos or "tacos" as they call them. Very yummy!
... I didn't feel it.) It rumbled and shook the whole house. My mom & I jumped out of bed and held onto each other in the doorway. My mom was praying and also saying, "I'm going to be buried alive in Honduras!" 6 people did perish, but in other parts of the country. Lucky for us, and Cofradia, the fault line was out in the ocean so we were far enough away to avoid major destruction.
Cofradia, Honduras claudiacfavreWe woke up early at Nicole's apartment in Nacaome. We got ready with a backpack to share and headed down the street to the market, where we could grab breakfast and catch the bus. We ate some black bean and egg burritos and jumped on the San Lorenzo bus. We also bought some lychees on the bus. Yummy! We got to San Lorenzo about an hour later. It was very hot and we had a good 8-10 blocks to walk to ...

San Lorenzo, Honduras swile05Nate and I left Tegucigalpa today and are headed back to the dirty south. For those of you traveling in Honduras and for some reason want to go south, probably to get to Nicaragua, you might want to consider Jaloning (hitchhiking). Nate and I got a taxi for about 55 Lempiras to Loarque which is situated at the corner of the only road coming up from southern Honduras. It's a simple two lane road and if you just wait by the stoplight and stick ...
San Lorenzo, Honduras jbergevuLeaving Maya was really sad, I had such a good time with her and I wish we had another two weeks to spend in Nicaragua together. However, I promised Nate that I would be in Tegucigalpa to meet him at the airport and I always to keep my promises. So on Tuesday the 7th of March I woke up early headed down to the market with Maya and got breakfast at the Market. The market in San Juan del Sur has the best breakfasts in town. They ...
