Heading south we spent a night in Mar del Plata, another large city on the coast. Nothing special about the town except it is the second largest beach town in the country and does indeed have a very wide beach that was crowded even as the sun was setting. It's surrounded by very flat, very fertile farmland. What strikes me most is how little we know about this country. Seems like people either live in huge cities or in very isolated, tiny villages.

Not had a whiff of instant since back in Argentina and even
had a filter coffee machine in the apartment, a real treat to wake up to.

Happily it didn’t have the hideous over-powering aroma of
air freshener – everyone here (and in Chile) liberally sprays the stuff around,

We were also invited along to an English speaking class which Sam runs. Basically local Argentines meet up once a week at a coffee shop to practise their English through discussions. It was great fun. We also took ourselves out for a bike ride, cycling along the coast to visit the ...

... had started enforcing my rule that if I don't know the Spanish word for something I want I can't buy it; I am hoping this will help me improve my vocabulary. I made soup and chickpeas (garbanzos) for lunch. I befriend an Argentinian who didn't speak any English. Google translate is a dream. He took me to a water tower with great view of the city. After we hung out at the hostel having a few beers before my bus. I got the hostel called me a taxi. The taxi was an unmarked one without ...

... when I said I was gonna walk was very shocked; he said my backpack was the weight of another person. Two km later (without even getting lost) I check in. I noticed two bruises on my arm from putting on my backpack, it may be a bit too heavy. Juan said this was the hostel he stayed at when in town; he mentioned it wasn't the best, but did the trick. I met a few of the people staying at the hostel and none of them spoke English. I went out ...
