.....or "The Christians Get Nasty Back!" We've driven out from Bilbao about 3 hrs. We drove mostly down the coast--lots like highway 1 down the California coast. Some very beautiful sights....after getting used to driving a car the size of a large anchovy can and the stick shift (which I haven't driven in over twenty years, I'm sure!) I was able to allow the sights to sink it. A few missed turns--thank ...
Covadonga, Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands sinfronteras... it was closed to the public, so we only looked at it from the outside and took a picture of the plaque.
Then, we made our way to Bar Aviles to meet Hector. The guys had a beer and we all chatted. Then our evening of bar hopping began. We went to another place and then eventually made our way to Corazon del Diamante, a bar where Hector's girlfriend works. Apparently ...
... the mountains following the river Cares. Although it is only possible to see the river occasional due to it being too far below the path it is possible to hear it. The walk is about 24 kilometers there and back. Approx 16 miles. We have never been on such a spectacular walk. The path clings to the cliff face hundreds of meters above the gorge and burrows through solid rock. It is very difficult to describe adequately.
Tomorrow 2 10 09 we move on.

Oviedo, Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands mispasosleti... resolved on a deeper, subconscious level. Something troublesome weighing on your mind can almost disappear by itself, with no conscious effort on your part to deal with the issue. It's quite strange how it all works ... but it somehow does.

Oviedo, Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands antoniusestrillThis is my last trip in 2008. From Madrid, together with friends, we travelled almost 5 hours to the north coast of Spain - Asturias. This is the mountainous side of the Spanish region which somehow provides a different landscape of green, rocky mountains, valleys and delicious food!
Asturias, Spain and Canary Islands digitalexplorer... steeples and domes, and its Parte Vieja (Old Town) is about as atmospheric as an old town gets. It is not as old as you think. It was destroyed in 1813 when the English routed Napoleon's forces from the city, and slowly rebuilt in the years following. I was warned accommodation was difficult to find in the summer season. I found a pensión in San Jerónimo named after the street. An elderly lady in her cooking apron tried to ...
