Plitvicka Jezera Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia, 47245
HE SAID: We drove from Livade to Plitvice Lakes which was a good 4+ hour drive. We got to the national park area around 7pm with no reservations on a Saturday and felt lucky to find a room at one of the hotels, there are only about 4 around the park). Otherwise, we would have to have knocked on a door of one of the many houses that rent a room (certified by the government; we think). Stayed at the ****** Grabovac Hotel, about a 10 minute drive to the entrance of the park. I didn't know what t...
Plitvice, Croatia travelbee... out a can of this tuna/veggie mix to eat as we walked. I know bears have a really good sense of smell and they like fish so I got all paranoid and starting looking around us and walking faster. Luckily we finally reached the ferry dock again and I knew we were safe.
We took the ferry back to the main Lake entrance, hiked back up the hill, got our bags, and set out to the bus stop. We’d been told that since the bus stop we would have to use is not a normal stop for ...
While we were still inland in Croatia, we really enjoyed the Plitvice National Park-it really is indescribable. It is a different beauty to this coastal one, but one that is unlike any I have ever seen…lakes so clear and green, surrounded by waterfalls and wildlife. We spent all day just walking around and enjoying it-I will never forget how beautiful it was ...

... 16 Euros, which initially sounds quite steep, but considering I was there for almost 6 hours and there are boats and mini tourist trains that can take you around some of the large lakes if you don't want to walk anymore, the lakes are well sign-posted and there are atleast 8 walking trails, it's well maintained and the money goes (presumably) towards to the maintainence. In the morning, there was a thunderstorm ...
Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia travellingjen... the park. Truly though, the park is spectacular. The water is aqua marine in color and there are innumerable water falls carrying the water from one pond to the next. The walkways are made of planks nailed together and at times the water is rushing directly under your feet on the way to another drop off. Each pond was a different color and water gurgling ...

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia lindsey-canadaHiked all day with another traveler from New Zealand, all around the lower and upper lakes, which took 6-7 hours in tremendous heat, but it was very scenic and interesting, and quite a workout! Turns out she was some sort of ultimate frisbee athlete, so most of the effort was keeping up with her.....
That night we stayed at a local guy's house (18US ...
... the water that are in various stages of calcification (if that's how you say it). Just amazing! The only downer was that you can't swim in the lakes, but it's also good because if everyone could swim in them they wouldn't be crystal clear and blue anymore because people would disturb the fragile algae and wreck it. This was one of the high points of my trip (and there were alot of high points), spending time in a beautiful place with great people - what more can you ask for?
