... also noticed that there were large green fields of crops, and strangely enough we could see boat masts protruding from them. obviously the canals ran through the crops, strange to see though.

... just passing by, some stopping at the café to have coffee and others just going for a ride. The thing that amazed us was that the road outside the hotel was a cobblestone road, made lots of noise, and the cars seemed to be flying past making lots of noise with their tyres.

The funny thing is though when you're cycling along the coast, right next to the sea you can't actually see the sea because of the big man made dykes like sea defences running along the whole way which is a shame. ... the night at Leeuwarden. This was my first real taste of the strong wind that had been blowing from the south, as it struck me side-on and considerably slowed my speed.
