... each person is provided slippers that we are expected to wear while walking inside the ryokan. They say one size fits all, but Brett’s wide feet are popping out of the slippers and he has to walk like a Geisha to prevent them from sliding off. The housemaids at the ryokan just giggle as they think he’s so cute!

... and we drive to station 5, which is at 7K feet. Cars are not allowed beyond station 5 so to get to the summit at just over 12K feet, you have to climb it. Climbing is only allowed in July and August and most people climb during the nighttime to get to the summit to enjoy the sunrise.

... therefore extremely relieved! We went for the cultural option and reserved a Japanese tatami mat room, complete with futons and sliding screens. As many of you have probably seen from facebook, Gabe fully embraced tradition as he swaggered round the hotel rocking the Yukata robes. ... traffic into Tokyo. The journey which took us 2 hours out ended up taking us 5 hours back. There was a consolation though, as this meant we encountered people coming into the station from Shinjuku bars.
