My day started extra early today as I decided to take some sunrise photos. I was up, dressed and outside at 5.30am.

When I had finished and returned to the room I had to wait an hour for everyone else to wake up so we could have breakfast.

After a nice breakfast at the hotel we caught the shuttle bus into town.

We started off by going to the morning markets. There were lots of strange looking ...

Today we said goodbye to Hakone and headed off to Takayama.

We caught a bus to Odawara train station and then boarded a Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya. Top speed of the train was 275kph. Im really impressed with how smooth the ride was. As the weather was fine we got another chance to see Mt Fuji as the train zoomed by.

Gotta try me one of those. Bought ginormous apples at ...

... Another pretty picture was the coffee and cake we had at the museum. Stunning presentation for princely sum of $9, it tasted good too. The biggest problem I have is that I want to taste everything, so morning, noon and night I am sniffing around every vendor, and that's between breakfast lunch and dinner. So cavorted naked with a lot of Japanese women in the public baths warranted tucking into a souvenir stamped steam Hida beef bun. Again it all looks so gorgeous and calls my ...

... controlled by uniformed men in white gloves who fill your car. Stop traffic and wave you away. There is no rubbish anywhere. Lunch was in a 6 person soba noodle shop run by one middle aged woman. Two bowls of noodles, tempura, exotic mushroom and grated vegetable in Bonito broth for ¥12000 ($12). Afternoon is a 20 minute bus ride to the Hida folk village and a wander around a traditional alpine village which has buildings moved to ...
