Gettıng back from the US ın Aug, and now ın Oct I am headıng west. I usually hate to travel far, but Turkey ıs just too appealıng. Another reason is that one of my students told me how she changed her worldview after staying there for a month. Turkish people are so nice and see you as part of family. This kind of description makes me wonder what kind of a country it is.

Too ****ing kind, I thought.
“My name is Dan. Each of you, introduce yourself.”
“Hi, Dan. I am Eva and I am hoping to study art history in UCLA next year,” answered the daughter with a perfect American accent.
The other two introduced themselves and I knew I was in for an hour and a half of hell. Daughter who speaks better English than me, husband who speaks ...
...where do I even start. The last few days will might as well be the beginning of a new life for me. As always I went with Sarah's parents to grandma's house for the first day of Lunar new year. We spent most of the day shopping and preparing for meals so we showed up late at A-ma's (that's Taiwanese for grandma's). A-ma was there to greet us at the door to see her daughter and grandkids. After a brief visit near ...

As we have no clue where we are we ask a man where to get off and he says he will tell us. He then presses the button and off we are in pouring rain. A police car is parked beside the bus station and a moment later a police man exits a shop. We ask him the way to Bulao or Baulai villages, the way we want to walk originally. He offers to ...
Bulao, Taiwan kurtmult... I sit down for some cookies and water and ask the police officer about the Korean signs. He explains that Koraen school children had visited the local school and as a welcome the village turned Korean. A car stops and a man and woman get off to offer me a ride ( you know my answer ) and other advise. The lady is kind of mayor in this area . They tell me where they live is Ka La He. Later on my way another lady in car stops and offers a ...

I don't remember all the names of my roommates here except ...

Taipei, Taiwan kurtmult... s probably because I left on Sunday and I've just arrived in Taipei on Tuesday morning. Now that's far East. It's wonderful to walk around after sitting on my **** flying half way around the world, literally. Taipei has a very modern airport with all the amenities you'd find in any major western city unless you land at 5am before anything opens. I managed to find an ATM thru many gesticulations and showing the cops my HSBC card, but being a bit discombobulated after a 'few ...
