Greek Isles

John

The next few blogs are of separate trips that we did: Sue to Rhodes in the Greek Isles (on her list of "must-do's!" for many, many years) and The Hague in the Netherlands (something she didn't DARE hope she could one day do), and John to Istanbul and Gallipoli in Turkey, a place I have always wanted to visit to acknowlege the great sacrifice given by so many there.

We both flew out from London Heathrow and the 16th of November and returned to ...

You had to pay to enter the mud baths, even if you didn't go in and I have to admit (at the risk of sounding a snob - after visiting the blue lagoon (Iceland) there was no way I getting in the water/mud here!! It was hard to distinguish where the actual 'natural healing' spring started and where it was ...

6 ladies, two men, two weeks, only 1 Turkiye!

I was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)

Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.

Layed Back

Another beautiful day. Sunny 78 degrees on the island of Rhodes. We travel to Lindos half way down the island. To see the Acropolis were Paul spoke to the Greeks. A long climb to the top with a view to forever. Just outstanding. Back to the boat early to catch some sun by the pool.

I am going to upload a couple of pics from yesterday on Myconos to give you an idea of the beauty here.

Day trip to Rodos

... recommened a place from a local, which turned out to be ok. Honestly, we've had better Mousakka in San Francisco, but the Greek Salad is pretty amazing. Who knew Cucumbers, tomatos, feta and olive oil could taste so good? We've tried to make our own using exactly the same ingredients, but somehow they manage to do it better.
Now we're off to the one-and-only Santorini!

Farewell to friends

... have made here over the last two years. The past few weeks have seen some interesting episodes for us, like the time Albert and Pamela said they were organising a 'bit of a singsong in the bar' and did we feel like doing something stupid ..... we stupidly said 'yes' .... and that is exactly what we did. We sang the Frank and Nancy Sinatra song, 'Something Stupid' (Murdered it in front of an appreciative audience might be more truthful!) On ...

Goodbye Europe

... the phrases and words we had learned. It was a nice change.

A potted history of the city is as follows. Early settlers were the Minoans from Crete who were later taken over by the Spartans. The town of Rhodes developed over the years and was first under Roman occupation and later became part of the Byzantine empire. Many conflicts followed but later on the Knights of the Crusades, recently kicked out of Jerusalem, arrived and fortified the city. In the sixteenth century, after a ...
