... city. Awesome architecture and canals winding around the city, as I took tons of pictures as always and just enjoyed the city.
Apparently Brugges had a movie made recently with it as a location; I'll have to check it out sometime. The main "art" piece I saw was a Madonna with Child from -the- Michaelangelo from Italy. It was quit nice, as were the countless other paintings and sculptures I saw in that ...
... is the largest collection of musical instruments in the world, and for only 4 euro (with a student card discount), I spent a good couple of hours visiting the hundreds and hundreds of musical instruments, which automatically play 2 or 3 short pieces through your wireless headphones as you walk around the different exhibits. -

... driving) but the motorways were so good - 3 lanes each way, hardly any traffic at all, and really smooth. The motorways in France have a speed limit of 130kph in the dry, and 110kph in the wet, so either way they were faster and more direct than the meandering country roads with a 90kph limit.
Part of the way along, we came across team Les Pompiers, and they drove past us waving our aerial at us! We soon caught up and received it back though...at about 130kph!
We stopped ...
... at the end.
We also toured the local De Halv Maans brewery, which offered good views at the top and pretty good beer. And we found the newest idea in take out--fast food pasta! They cook fresh pasta right in front of you, add a sauce, put it in a cup and give you a fork, for 3 Euro. We think it would take off at home.
Oh, we haven't mentioned chocolate yet. Brugge also has a chocolate museum which ...
I saw the film "In Bruges" when it came out at the cinema a couple of years ago, and thought it looked like a beautiful city. So when Annabelle (the teacher in charge of me at school, and a good friend) suggested going for the day, Erin and I jumped at the chance.
The advantage of living so close to the Belgian border is that almost everywhere in Belgium is not much more than an hour away, and so we have no excuse not to see a lot of it!
We arrived in Bruges around 11.30 ...
We made our way from Gouda to Brugge. Brugge is a beautiful town that holds a lot of its older architecture and feel. With its canals and its medieval buildings it is a great town to spend the day exploring and taking pictures. Once again a drizzly day we lucked out and managed to get a few hours of sunshine to take out our cameras.
Our campsite was about 15 minutes out of town so we took a bus that took us directly to the city ...
... s nickname "Venice of the north". It is full of little canals and narrow streets, like some of the other old towns we have seen but this one had a character and vibe that we really understood.Chocolate, love it (we bought a box and ate it in a day). Waffles, love them. Beer, Steve loves it. Fries, all good (we tried two different kinds- one with "special sauce" which turned out to be mayo, curry ketchup and onions, and one with ...
Brugge, West Flanders, Belgium steveandwhitneyToday was a bad day. I still have pinkeye and I couldn't get a doctor appointment until 5:30 which means I couldn't get my medicine today, which means more pink eye! I also bought a bike today. Then my bike was stolen. All in the same day. Shoot me. I don't really have anything else to say about today, it just sucked.
Middelburg, Netherlands mcm38250... define alive. The lights come on, the moonlight flickers against the water of the canals, and those trashy sausages and bagels all of a sudden become very, very tasty. In the other sense, there's almost no nightlife in Bruges, and after about 8 things die down to the point of desertion. It was a bit sad, as I was most definitely in the mood to meet people. Although ,not too sad. My first night I met a brilliant Brazilian named Ana. Her ...
Bruges, Belgium papapeta33... else is dropping 8 to 12...which is a lot of money when you think about it. Then they will go out to dinner and take cabs home etc. which all adds up to a lot. I feel really anti-social some times because I am always turning people down for invitations to go out partying because I can't justify spending as much money as I know I would spend if I go. I guess that the only consolation is that I am very conscious of how expensive everything is now so I am not ...
