Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire drmorgan... until tomorrow. We took off again around 10:00 and started on our four-plus hour flight across the heart of the African jungle to Nairobi. We had a light dinn** about an hour into the flight, now I'll try to get some sleep. I often think about how impenetrable the jungle is along this flight path. It's a wild and myst**ious place even today. It would be int**esting to visit sometime, but the logistical needs would be beyond anything I could manage.

His French wasn't very good, but we got so excited that he had even more trouble expressing himself. Finally he said "all Americans are great, they are not racist! Maybe now other countries will not be racist." I told him I was from the States and he responded "I like all Americans" with a shining grin. I arrived at the shopping center at 5:00 pm which was ...

So under the still-heavy rain, there was yelling and pushing and shoving and some threatening. A crowd gathered. I sat in the steamy car trying to think if there was anything I could do. After several minutes, Paul came and said the cart-man was going to press charges, unless he was given some money. I cringed a little mentally ...
Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire joelmeekerYes, the end is near. Two more days before I leave and I have seen all that I can. We were in a village named Divo for Sunday night and trust me, Greyhound is a lot better than the bus ine we used. The terminal here in the city was packed so full, I didn't think another thousand people people could find space in the thousands already there. There had to be at least sixty busses going in different directions and the organized confusion was amazing to see. After two ...
Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire stacygresl... doing interviews. Gislain, Melinda and I were able to just enjoy the show and take it all in. That night we headed to our local spot Tina`s and had some Ghanaian food and lots of club beer. As the festival had brought out all the national sponsors there was a huge MTN party at our local petrol station, the Goil. It was bizarre and very fun, dancing next to petrol pumps. That Monday it was back to work for me and Emily busied herself checking out the local sites in Cape Coast and Elmina ...
Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire amalawski... After an unusually long time had passed, someone went to check on him and found him unresponsive. That's when Paul received a call. An ambulance took Anicet to the nearest clinic but he was dead on arrival. He had no history or any defect of illness. The family can't afford an autopsy of course, so sadly the boy's death will likely remain a complete mystery. We arrived in La Mé about 10:30 and drove straight to the hall. We greeted our church ...
Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire joelmeeker... a pleasant change from the nearby countries that make you pay through the nose for the privilege of visiting their dysfunctional bureaucracies. Several members of our church were at the airport to meet us. We greeted the warmly and made arrangements to take the Hotel Ibis shuttle to our lodgings. Arriving around 4:30 we checked in and said goodbye for the evening to our members. They'll be back in the morning to accompany us out to the village where ...
Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire jpbigan... other paperback (Herodotus' History, 700 pages) in a pocket, earphones, a glasses case, my mp3 player, cell phone, peripherals for the laptop, toiletries; I moved as many things as I could into increasingly bulging vest pockets, until I imagined that I looked something like a khaki Michelin man. I closed the suitcase, and fiddled with the broken TSA lock to give the impression it worked, and put the hand luggage back on the scale, the weight ...
