Hotel Goldener Hirsch

... We drove by the front of the Von Trapp villa, as well as the Nonnberg Abbey where Maria was a nun. We drove through the incredibly beautiful Salzburg Lake District of which the panorama shots were shown at the beginning of the film. The lakes and mountains are incredible to see, and everything is so green. My two favourite stops were: 1. Hellbrunn Palace, where we got to see the gazebo exterior that was used in the movie for '16 Going On 17' and ...
... to be a 4 hour long tour of the Alps that ended up being 30 minutes spent looking at a lake. The sad part was we found out the world's largest ice cave was there that we could have gone into had we known. Oh well, it is something to go back and see again! We still had fun! We are now in our hotel packing and going to bed early to leave here at 7 am to head to Germany! I hope it isn't too crazy there with Germany being in the World Cup ...
I love it here! We spent the morning on a city tour. There was only one nice person on our tour. I even asked the guide about their medical system to consider living here for a bit. It was poring rain this morning but cleared up to just be cloudy and cold in the afternoon. It is going to be in the high 40's tonight! I had brought no warm clothes and we had to go get some today. We toured gardens at a ...
... as we were going through another car came straight at us so Sean had to avert this situation and somehow managed to avoid the car crashing head on to us, but rather scraped the whole of my side. Stopped to have a look and get street details but the driver didn't stop, doubt he realised what he had done! Anyway climbed the windy 10 Kms up the road,to find our hotel beautiful old place, with an amazing view! Anyway finally got through ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Goldener Hirsch Salzburg
My wife and I recently travelled to Salzburg and satyed at the Goldener Hirsch from September 13th to the 19th, 2004. It is a very lovely and quaint hotel. The location is perfect; right in the old district which is near most of the shops, restaurants and historical sites. We looked at staying at the Hotel Sacher, but it's on the other side of the river. Yes it has a lovely view of the city and is right on the river on one side, but on the other side (where you arrive) is a 4 lane street about as busy as Broadway. It looks quite nice inside, but keep in mind it's a Big hotel. That's the beauty of the Goldener Hirsch; it's everything the Hotel Sacher isn't. Reading one of the negative reviews, I really don't understand what the person was talking about. We had breakfast once at the hotel, knew up front it Wasn't included, and the price for everything was on the menu. The satff were helpful and knowledgable. I would definitely return!
Im a seasoned traveller.. I write many reviews for all to see and maybe learn from on this site. And I dont really know what to say about this place.. its neither good nor bad, very much like the town it lives in. My bedroom was very good, maybe I was upgraded because of my Starwood membership. The place has charm the restaurant is bland and too twee even for Austria. Its not a grand hotel in the true sense of the word, but it charges like one. Breakfast was a big dissapointment 30 euros for 5 euro food, and very surley service. I arrived in my Aston Martin and the bellhop took it away to a private garage, just as well because there is nowhere to park. 40 euros a day.. very steep considering the rest of the rates I had been charged during my motoring tour of Europe. Well thats about all there is to say, if you must stay in Salzberg its not a bad choice, but like some other reviewers you mihjt be dissappointed
Wonderful and Quaint
Small, quaint, and most charming hotel. In the heart of all the action. We had no problems with the concierge. They were always very helpful. Breakfast is not included and is pricey but there are PLENTY of place to eat nearby. I recommend you have a drink at the SteinTerrace--it's a nearby roof top hotel bar which has the most fantastic views (especially of the fortress). Also, as cheesy as it sounds, the "Sound of Music" tour was hysterical and fun.
The Goldener Hirsch doesn't live up to its high rating. Yes, it's a great location and the room was lovely, however:
Loved this quaint hotel
What a setting!!! The hills truly are alive with the sound of music. We stayed in a large tastefully decorated room away from the main hotel. Just what we were looking for. We have and would again recommend this hotel to friends.
OLD TIME CHARM
A very classy, very old, and utterly charming hotel. It reminded me of an old country inn with only a few floors of rooms; giant room keys; and exquisite dining. If, or rather when, I return to Salzburg, I will definitely stay at the Hotel Goldener Hirsch again...it's right in the heart of the "Alt Stadt".
A Perfect Little Slice of Salzburg
This hotel is the only place to stay in Salzburg! Perfectly located amongst the shopping streets and market squares of this beautiful city. The rooms are comfortable and finished in lovely detail. The hotel's restaurant serves very high quality food and the bar and breakfast areas are really nice. Yet most impressive are the staff at the Goldener Hirsch. They could not have been more helpful and consistently friendly. In addition to helpful service they were only too willing to make restaurant and ticket bookings for us. We look forward to a return visit in the near future.
One of the very best
Everything about this hotel was wonderful, one of the finest places I've ever stayed. My room (free upgrade) was large, comfortable and beautiful, with every amenity, and the service was impeccable. The staff was gracious, courteous, helpful and very professional. Breakfast buffet was pricey, but worth it, a veritable feast with any request made to order. The location was perfect and best of all were the Mozart chocolates on the pillow every night! I loved the Goldener Hirsch.
Sound of Music
Simply the best in Salzburg. Staff, accommodations, food and service.
Old world charm with modern amenities.
The location could not have been better: right at Salzburg's old town high street, Getreidegasse. Being Starwood Preferred Guest Gold member, I received an upgraded to a suite, which was an alpine dream come true: small, but cozy living room, ancient (looking) rustic furnishings, very comfortable bed with patterned bed linen, two TV sets, lots of wardrobe space, ISDN modem port, in-room safe, minibar, a small bottle of red wine as a welcome gift, large bathroom with two wash basins, separate toilet and bidet, evening turn down with free mineral water and chocolate, overnight shoe shine - you name it. Room rate (141 EUR per night, low season) booked on starwood.com was more than OK. If you want to save your Euros and miss the very good breakfast, have it somewhere else, because it is very expensive (25 EUR). Two restaurants of which I preferred "s' Herzl", the more rustic and cheaper one, because it had more atmosphere to it. Great bar located in a former courtyard. Staff could not have been nicer. My most memorable stay yet.
