... legend of the Nibelungs goes back to the 5th century, and was recorded in a famous epic poem in the 12th or 13th century. The word Nibelungen is transferred from a legendary race of Germanic dwarfs and their treasure, to the followers of Siegfried, and finally to the Burgundians which are portrayed in the poem. I believe I might have enjoyed this museum had I been alone, or with other literature nerds like me. But I was with medical doctors who have no background in ...

... bailout for getting home from the inevitable "scenic" route. I took one of those in Heidelberg. I'm still not really sure how I ended up on the south edge of town at the end of a different bus route than I got on. But with the day pass, you turn around, get back on, and try again at no additional cost. Second time was a charm, I made it back past my starting point and down to the Altstadt.

... ourselves a little parking ticket for forgetting to put money in the meter. Luckily we have no idea how to pay it and well we "lost the ticket" so oops!
We got a nice little hotel in Frankenthal which was a little over budget but luckily had a kitchenette in it so it saved us money on food. That night we dined on stir fry and Chris made a great bacon and eggs breakfast in the morning. Worth it!
Then it was off to see my Mum in Mainz! Yay!
... the city, its adorable beer taverns, and its gorgeous architecture. But I didn't love it, and I can't quite figure out why. Perhaps I was expecting more, due to the fact that every Germany guidebook touts it as a perfect German fairytale city. But it's also a college town and an industrial town, and the legendary "nightlife" I heard so much about wrapped up at about 10pm. But nonetheless, it's a stunning ...

Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany rush0517... Swabian Germany to Bad Wimpfen, where we spent the night. Now, our guidebook said Bad Wimpfen is "a pretty town." I was mid-sentence talking to Matt, and literally stopped and stared at this fortified city on a hill. Matt turned to his right to see what I was staring at and nearly rear-ended the car in front of us. It's that stunning, with a castle tower jutting into the skyline from the hilltop. And let me repeat: Frommers, Lonely Planet, and Let's Go didn't even mention it. Go ...
Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany sql_spice... of souvenirs and clothes). Despite a confusing change over somewhere in Germany, I arrived here ok and my friend Sebastian picked me up from the station.
Over the past few days I have visited Heidelberg's Castle (very beautiful), toured around town, hiked in the Black Forest where, apparently, there are goblins, and eaten some very delicious meals courtesy of Sebastian's parents. I love sauerkraut so I was very excited to hear we were having ...
... tower lookout and a really deep well.
After all this we hiked down the "mountain", stopping along the way to pick a sliver out of Brian's toe as people stared at us, and trying out a see-saw that had a huge spring on the bottom so you didn't just go up and down but side to side and in circles (not great for a man's anatomy). The Neckar River runs through town and is beautiful. The streets are just like the ...
