... at my computer, and then by the time I was done with that, I had just missed the office that I needed to visit closing! That's something else that I need to get used to here - not everything is on a dependable nine to five schedule.

But I was out already and I have really been wanting to visit the old Jewish cemetery in town, called Heiliger Sands. Supposedly, it's the oldest one in all of Europe. That's pretty rad! ...

... of good food, warmed by a real fire in the fireplace, talking leisurely and laughing a lot, I realized that this was Gemütlichkeit, a word that we don't even have a direct translation for in English.

... since I don't know what baking soda and powder are called in German yet....) It was the first night that I was by myself with the kids at bedtime, and overall things went pretty well. Even with us still speaking mostly different languages, we're beginning to understand each other.

We slept in a bit again this morning and missed out on the
organised walking tour of Mainz.
But we did do our own walk into the city which was
interesting. The city square around the Cathedral (what else) is all cobbled.
