Lake O'Hara

... Canada truck pulled up and the driver asked if we'd like a lift. Naturally we said yes, and as there was no room inside the truck she told us to jump into the back. It was so much fun riding in the tray of this giant ute down this dirt road, and the driver was going at a nice speed. About 3kms after we were picked up we caught up to another group of about 6-7 people, so they joined us in the back of the ute. Good times :)

Our Close To Home Adventures

Hi,

Since we won't be traveling extensively until Donn retires, I thought it might be fun to show everyone some of the wonderful camping and outdoor recreational opportunities that exist right outside our back door.

This is my first attempt at this so please bear with me as I share with you our wonderful weekend.
As you will see from the pictures we like to ...

Big Adventure -- White Water Rafting

... fruit, salad, and a big cookie for dessert. After lunch the guides gave an equipment orientation. We were outfitted with wet suit, fleece sweater, splash jacket, river shoes, helmet, gloves, and life jacket. We put on our gear and headed for the rafts. Our group consisted of three rafts with six people each, plus guide. At riverside we learned the guide's instructions, how to deal with various situations, and how best to stay in the raft and ...

Yoho National Park plus Lake Louise

... Falls. It is a 2.4 km (1.5 miles) hike to the falls. This is a large, high volume waterfall, but the view from below the falls is blocked by a rock embankment. This is probably due to large rocks breaking off as the waterfall works its way upstream – part of the natural erosion process. The real treat of the day was the hike back to the parking lot. We saw a black bear just a few yards from the trail. Fortunately, it was busy eating, had no cubs ...

Things Happen -- Good News and Bad News

It was a short drive from Canyon Hot Springs to Whispering Spruce Campground in Golden, BC, just southwest of Yoho National Park. As usual, Jane went in to register while Jim unhitched the car. As Jim pulled the pins on the tow bar, he felt something quite wet. He turned around and saw coolant (anti-freeze) dripping from the motor home's engine compartment. It turned out to be a hole in the large hose that ...

Starting with the begining...

... 8th Jan) Chris and I went in our hot tub which is shared by all of Alpen Rose for the first time in the evening. It's a pretty weird experience being below -5(c) and in a hot tub, we ran back to our lodge in our towels which was pretty invigorating!! The view from the tub, looking out to Kicking horse really is amazing. I'll be posting photos asap. Anyway, I'll update as and when I can, probably shorter but more interesting than this one!!! Enjoy!!! xx

Flood Watch!

... gone out a few other times after work with some of the girls. Also got together with the girls I used to work with at the Resort so that was nice to get togther and such. Even though I am working ridiculous hours I am still getting out and having somewhat of a life aside from working all the time. I will not compromise on that part even if it mean sacrificing sleep to do it. I am pretty much caught up now though. It's funny how if I am ...

Snowing STILL!

... Didn't do much of interest on my days off last week. Walked all over town for hours and hours just seeing where certain shops are, wandering in to a few, and what not. Took a little walk out of town along one of the hiking trails out to Vermillion Lakes. It was a half decent day so I can't complain. Trail was still a little bit wet though, but ok. Got freaked out at one point because even though it's only on the outskirts of town ...

The Ice Fields in Jasper

The ice fields of Jasper had impressive glaciers. The pix don't do them justice as well. Some of the close ups don't really give perspective as the size of the crevices are huge and dwarf man, bus or buildings if were present in the pix. This was the only place we had some rain but it quickly cleared.
