Khor virap, Ararat, Armenia mandelbrot... stylish city in a forgotten corner of the former USSR, very western, with a lot of chic shops, restaurants, outdoor cafes and performance places offering a lot of cultural events. But on the other hand, it also has its fair share of ugly and broken Soviet era buildings, and these two elements co-exist next to each other, giving the city a somewhat eerie feel. This feeling intensified when I observed that the citizen of the city seem not working very hard and the ...
Yerevan, Armenia chan_hc... Victories’ Day, Last Bell (children graduate from high-school).

However, in this happy period we have an awful date, on which we remember those indescribable.. I don't know how to call it.. well, actions made by the Ottoman Empire leaders and their army in 1915 we all wished they hadn't made... This is the saddest day during all the year in Armenia, 24th of April. Everybody remembers their ...
Yerevan, Yerevan, Armenia eleoshka... worth of long legged tourists. Feeling evermore lonely, surrounded as I was by wallet devouring savages, it wasn't long before I was alluding my situation to the film 'I am Legend' and losing my camera on the second day was abit like the scene where the dog dies. Things picked up when I left northern Armenia and headed toward to green sanctuary of Dilijan- the 'Armenian Alps'. On the way I met a rather interesting character- Jilles. Jilles (pronounced ...
Yerevan, Armenia benjermaicus... is still open, a 60 meter ladder down into a pit. I don't know whether I was sweating with exertion or the fear of walking down a rickety ladder into a dark hole.... I ended up taking a taxi to the site. Usually I'm a fan of marshrutkas since they are a) way cheaper, and b) sometimes you can meet nice locals (there is an opposite to this, when it's not so nice to take marshrutkas because of the locals...) but I wasn't done with ...
Yerevan, Armenia mvmcwhir... the hills. Seeing one direction of highway is flooded, people don't hesitate to drive in the opposite one. Btw, I've heard the flooding made it to the top news;) [even international ones - Georgian ones deal with local stuff all the day: if you wanna know that a cow died, it's there]. At the Sadakhlo borders it doesn't rain anymore and I'm getting optimistic. Although there are just a couple of cars, it takes a while. Armenian visa is 15000AMD~37e. Unfortunately one has to pay in AMD ...
Yerevan, Armenia mys... small white tuft of flakes graced the center of the gavit, where all the flakes had fell in the calm air. For a while, I walked around and lit candles. I took a marshrutka from Alaverdi to the Georgian border, walking across, then continuing to walk through farmland and villages until finally getting a ride with a friendly truck driver who was also heading to Tbilisi, an hour away, leaving Armenia, its history, its khatchkars, its old monasteries, and its people behind.
Haghpat and Sanahin, Armenia lraleigh... of the process and here it was no different. It took almost two hours to fill out each of the car papers and we were at the office late into the night. At this point in time we knew there was no way we would make it to Yeravan tonight and settled in filing papers and making coffee to fight off the cold. After spending at least 6 hours there I was outside preparing a pot of coffee when a truck pulled by. As it stopped I recognized the Georgian border ...
Yerevan, Armenia travelingtony... við hliðina á Einfaranum sem ekki fer inn í minjagripabúðir frekar en fyrri daginn. Þegar við heyrum svo kirkjuklukkurnar taka lagið á bak við okkur og engin af félögunum er farinn að tínast úr út sjoppunni ákveðum við að hlaupa sem leið liggur aftur að kirkjunni og kíkja eftir biskupi með alla sína preláta í prósesíu (ég vona að þetta sé rétt skrifað, en það skiptir svo sem ekki öllu máli) og sjá okkur hlotnast sú upphefð að sjá presta á hinum ýmsu stigum metorða ...
Yerevan, Armenia hafrunb... and with them. We also got to each talk a little about ourselves- sort of a mini testimony, I suppose. It was a great time to get to hear each other's stories as well as share our own with the people of Armenia. Once the Bible Study was over, we went to a late dinner at a very nice restaurant. It was really fun, because we were off in a room with just our group as well as a small group of musicians who kept playing music. We learned some Armenian dances while we waited for ...
