    Today we went back home, not by bike, because of my flat tire. Matthijs took the train to Amersfoort and from there the bus to Scherpenzeel and then picked up the car and drove back to Zeewolde.     ... 1700s and the land eroded into shifting sand dunes!!!! They had to leave but eventually decided the only way to fix the land was to plant trees. So these very early environmentalists did that and reforested the entire country so that almost none of the sand remained. Amazing!     Some good things we did do, set up the digital weather station that Margaret gave John for Christmas; our new iPod player works a treat (although the remote works on volume, it does not seem to alter the tracks); set up the new storage for our CD’s and DVD’s as well as our new kitchen roll holder.
